My friends and I won a free weekend in Vegas!! Although it hasn't occurred to me until now that the legal drinking age is 21. Which sucks, because we're 18, 18, 18 and 19. We're lucky because here in Alberta it's 18! Does anyone know if the law is strictly enforced there? It's Vegas... seems like there would be some leeway. I read that you can drink underage with parental consent... what does that mean? Does your parent have to physically be present? Are there any establishments that don't ID you? What can you even do for fun in Vegas if you can't drink or gamble? Any and all help is appreciated!
By parental consent, most states mean in the presence of a parent in your private residence, not a public place. Also, IDing for alcohol is probably one of the most strictly checked things. To be honest, I'd just recommend enjoying Vegas sober this time around. Since y'all won't be able to gamble or drink, I suggest taking in some shows, going shopping, maybe try golfing, etc. Sorry about that .
It's actually pretty heavily regulated. Nearly every place I.D.s You'd be better off having someone buy alcohol for you and drinking it off in the dark somewhere. There's a lot of things to do. Plenty of shows, there's some awesome arcades, restaurants. Same stuff you'd find in pretty much any downtown but a lot more of it. You could try going during a festival. This weekend is Punk Rock Bowling, which is a 3 day long Punk Rock Festival. One thing to keep in mind is there are a lot of sketchy and drunk people..More so drunk people roaming the strip.
Never been to Vegas, but I don't live far from Atlantic City and frequent it quite often. If Vegas is anything like AC, then carding people is strongly enforced. No establishment wants the fines and no employee wants to be fired for it, especially in the casinos. You could try to get someone to buy it for you, but there will be undercover cops "willing" to buy you alcohol. Do the shows, restaurants, thrill rides, etc. Also, if Vegas is anything like AC, stay near the casinos if you want to feel safe.
Don't drink if it's against the law. I'm not saying it's immoral, but the consequences of breaking it may be more severe than the possible satisfaction. Being drunk in a city in which the drunk are preyed on and prey is a bad idea. It's your choice, but your interests probably aren't going to be served by illegally obtaining alcohol for what's essentially a whim; you can live without it for a few days.
My partner and I have been to Vegas on numerous occasions. There's a lot to do other than drink--although it will be a shame to miss out on the free cocktails while you gamble (oh wait you can't do that either).:icon_sad: Seriously, though, unless you look 40 you're going to get carded everywhere in Vegas. There is a lot of other stuff to see and do though--great restaurants, shows and frankly if you've never been there before just wandering around and seeing it all. It's the most gloriously tacky place on earth.
Huh, I'm surprised to find Vegas's gambling age is 21.... thought it was 18 in most places? Unless you're in a small town or whatnot (and I mean country and farms small) the selling of alcohol to underaged individuals is actually strictly enforced in the US. I know a lot of people get fake IDs but I will of course not recommend it. If there was a person over 21 in your group you could've had him/her buy alcohol, but you would've had to drink it in private; but you have no such individual so nice dice. Yeah, definitely take in some shows if you've got the money for it. Maybe walk the strip. I think there's some amusement/theme parks scattered throughout the city, that could potentially be fun. Hell if you happen to like roller coasters try this one, on top of a 270 m. building. If you happen to like hiking and have means to a car there are probably places around the area that are good. In fact there's a fantastic area in the upper northwest corner of Arizona, a short drive away if you really were interested (though I'm guessing not?).
I used to live in Vegas, and I would definitely not recommend drinking at all during your first trip there, legally or otherwise. If you're spotted or if you even seem a bit tipsy, it places you on the radar of some sketchy individuals. As far as activities go, you can usually find a ton of street performers and some of the casinos have stunning architecture to admire. And you can save the money you would have spent gambling and go see a fantastic show or two.
I have no clue what you can do in vegas without alcohol, but then again I'm not a very vegas type of person. You could go to a show, like Siegfried and Roy, except for the fact that one of those got eaten by the other.
