To all those in the USA, Happy Memorial Day. On this day we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. I know many of you do not approve of the current wars we are fighting, but soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines don't get to decide which wars to fight, that is up to the politicians. They serve to defend our country, and our way of life. This holiday remembers all soldiers, not just those of Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and the War on Terror, but WWI, WWII, the Civil War, even the Cold war. I myself served 12 years in the US Army, including campaign medals for the Cold War and WWII (WWII ended Oct 3 1990 when the occupation of Berlin Germany ended with German Reunification.) I salute all those who have served and continue to serve, especially those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
This is a day of remembrance. I have had multiple family members in the military, dating back to the Civil War. Thank you for your service.
Right. They are brave souls, especially those who went voluntarily. And, then, we also have Veteran's Day on November 11 to commemorate those who served. They are the reason we have the quality of life we do. It will be a quiet day for me. Just some chores.
I think it's also important to remember the foreign soldiers and civilians who died defending their county from the US.
Yeah. I went out to Fort Custard to help clean-up my grandpa's tombstone. WWII vet. Very thankful to all those who have served.
How did you get a campaign medal for the Cold War? I mean, I can imagine people getting medals for the conflicts (Korea/Vietnam etc.) during the Cold War, but the Cold War itself wasn't strictly a war?
