Working in porn? Thoughts?

Discussion in 'Chit Chat' started by Man of Anxiety, Jun 1, 2014.

  1. What are your thoughts on working in porn? :/
Well, I want to become one but I have zero self esteem LOL

If people I love works in porn, I'd get so depressed though... I feel so hypocritical... :eusa_doh:

I think it's very dangerous because condoms get you less views.
Also its out of the question unless you're really hot

  3. I don't mind bareback. As long as the workers do regular health check up, and just be reasonable, I think that's fine...

Well, I'm not hot...I'm working on my body though...there are porn stars who aren't that hot...

EDIT: It's also non string attached, I'd choose money over love anyway lol

Dont think its a good thing
Unless you want to work only as a jerker i know one hot guy who only jerks off on screen no sex
    Its safer and better
But to tell the truth not the good kind of a job why not looking for something better not judging just saying its a nasty road there

It's your life, you want to do porn? Then crack on. Just be safe about it is all I ask.

I don't think it should be a first choice thing though. For every successful star there's bound to be thousands of cast offs and nevergonnabes you just don't see.

Probably not worth it. There are dangers involved, ranging from infection to abuse to poverty. The pay is not going to be amazing, nor will the work conditions, unless you were to be a) in charge of it yourself, which would require a great deal of business acumen to stay financially afloat, or b) in a well-established, reputable studio, which is still not perfect, but would be harder to get into.

Speak to sex workers about it, especially pornographers. It'll be worth it to get their advice before even beginning to try.

If it were for me, I do think that working in porn is a last resort. We're not only talking about the physical dangers here but as well as emotional and mental. It says that you're not out to anyone which can also lead to more stress for you.

I don't really see porn as a good career, but my opinion is highly based on that I can't stand people seeing pictures of me, so imagine porn xD? But if that's what you want to do, go on. It's your life :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

  9. I just like looking at hot guys in porn and they have perfect body, I'm so jealous.
It'd be great to *work* with them! (I'll make sure that I'm hot enough to work there LOL)

I don't know but I've always loved sex. Getting paid is all I want. :roflmao:
Maybe with condom on is a safer way.

It's not something I'd want to do. But I don't have a problem with the profession.

I'd never do it, mostly because I'd have to know and love a girl enough to have sex with her; I've never been partial to one-night stands or swinging. From what I've heard, the sex in porn is just a job and there really is no love in it, except for the couples who do it together. I fail to meet the requirements anyway (apparently you need a super large penis).

I wouldn't date anyone working in the porn industry either. Not because my spouse would be having more sex, but because I'd be afraid I wouldn't be a competent enough lover.

It doesn't make enough money to be worth it if you ask me, and there is no retirement plan that I am aware of for sex workers. There's also a strong emphasis on youth and beauty, So as soon as you turn 35, you're probably out of a job, unless you get plastic surgery. And you can't really put your experience as a sex worker on your resume.

My opinion is that porn is sex work, and sex workers should be humanized and treated with respect. There should be safety standards that must be followed. I wouldn't look down on you for doing it, but I want you to be safe, and I also hope that you can find a more fulfilling vocation.

I would also like to point out that while there's a whole lot of badness in porn (to the point that I can't enumerate all of it), there are some people out there who are maybe worth listening to on the subject.

For example, Nina Hartley is a feminist and a sex educator.

I thought of it before, but it would definitely be a niche market. I mean, I'd have to have on my latex body suit and pup-mask, and it would most likely be solo play with, well, various things! Also, this gives one a degree on anonymity. I've seen some do-it-yourself stuff like this, so it might be a fun way to possibly make a few extra dollars, while having fun. Then, I also thought of doing live requests via video, that would probably bring in more. But I'd be in the latex fetish genre, so it's not really the mainstream porn world, which is generally very boring/unimaginative to me. Yet having poked around this 'community', there does seem to be some demand. If it made me enough, I'd gladly cut back on my 'real' job, 'cause it has such a long commute, and is boring. This sort of work would have a lot more meaning, for me.

So I'd only do it on a limited basis, and if it did involve anyone else, absolutely NO exchange of fluids.

I'd be very careful. At least in California, producers have a habit of being highly abusive to actors, and it isn't common to be allowed to use condoms or choose your partners or the frequency of your scenes. Pay is usually shit. I can't think of an industry that treats workers worse.

i think that as long as you are aware of the risks, you should do it if you want to.

personally, it isn't an option for me because of the effects it could have on my future career if i left porn.

I wouldn't, personally. If someone wants to, that's their choice, although I think a lot of damaged people get taken advantaged of in the business. You're desperate for money and expendable, pretty much at their mercy...

First, I don't think one can make any generalizations about porn producers being bad in any particular part of the country. There are some really shady ones, and there are some really ethical ones. The shady ones probably outnumber the ethical ones, particularly in the gay porn marketspace, because it tends to be smaller, with smaller production companies. Porn producers are spread all over the country, though the majority are in CA, NV, and FL.

But on the subject of doing porn... if you have self esteem issues, I strongly recommend against it. While there are some people that have actually used porn as a means of finding their own empowerment and taking control, those people are very much in the minority.

The people that go into porn believing that it will boost their self esteem are in very dangerious territory, because you're hitching your self-esteem to what other people think, and no matter how beautiful or perfect you are, a lot of people are often very critical and judgmental of porn models (usually because they wish they were that attractive, but that's a different issue...)

Also, pay for gay porn, unless you are pretty exceptional and in demand, isn't very high... at its peak, it's about a quarter of what a top female porn performer earns. Work is sporadic, and it's nearly impossible to make a full-time living at it.

Additionally, bareback porn in the gay porn marketplace is nowhere near as safe as in the straight marketplace because many of the gay porn producers aren't strict about testing, and even if they are, most do not subscribe to the central registry used predominantly by the straight porn industry. And condom porn in the gay industry is, sadly, on the decline.

Finally, it's nowhere near what it looks like when you're watching it. The 15 minute scene you're watching probably took 2 to 4 hours to film, involved a lot of stop-and-go, repositioning, and changing camera angles. It's basically acting with people ejaculating at the end. Nowhere near as fun as it looks.

So... my advice would be there are much, much better ways to earn a living, and going into it in hopes of boosting your self esteem is a terrible idea.

I equate porn with shorter and more tragic lives. In the process of being a piece of meat on display and for sale, degradation must be internalized. I say this because these poeple's lives are often reduced to links on someone's home page, with a RIP, if that. It's sad. Sometimes, I think that these people didn't think they could do anything else with their lives and took the path of least resistance, and ended up in bad way. I say no.

Huh, didn't think the idea of becoming a "porn star" would get so shamed on here...
