I know that this thread is abit random but The Dark Knight was on TV today and I genuinely thought that Heath Ledger's Joker was one of the best bits of acting that I have ever seen, so I thought why not start a thread about it and we can each discuss actors/actresses who have given great performances... Here are afew of mine:

The Dark Knight - Heath Ledger
The Black Swan - Natalie Portman
Misery - Kathy Bates (Amazing, everyone that hasn't seen that movie must watch it lol)

Their are so many more performances in movies that I think are incredible and captivating but I cannot think of them this late at night. I will update my list later lol... So what are yours?

    None of the them

I mean they're very good, yes, but there are a lot better acting performances

I agree. Heath Ledger's portrayal of Joker is pretty straight out of the box. I loved Misery as well and I did loved her role on AHS.

Viola Davis' on Doubt : Doubt Clip - YouTube
Mo'nique on Precious (Also I must say Mariah Carey pretty much redeemed her role from Glitter):
Precious - Who was gonna love me? - Mo'nique - YouTube
Leonardo Dicaprio on Django Reinhardt: Django Unchained- Best scene(Full Scene/Leonardo Dicaprio/Cuts Hand/Gets Stitches) - YouTube This guy cut his hand for real and still continued to stay in character so it's pretty impressive)
Isabelle Huppert on The Piano Teacher La pianiste Isabelle Huppert [final scene] - YouTube very painful to watch but this one minute clip of her stabbing herself is too intense.

Ralph Fiennes portrayal of Amon Goeth in Schindlers List. Very dark and menacing.

An Auschwitz survivor found him a little too convincing in the role.

Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood, or Kevin Spacey in American Beauty would be my picks.

(That Mo'Nique, I mean WOW what a scene)
Heath Ledger was convincing, witty and one of the redeeming qualities of the film, a great performance. But it was nowhere near the best I've ever seen.

Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black. She plays multiple parts in the series, amazing performance.

I cannot believe I totally forgot Precious... That is the only film that I nearly cried at while watching... I agree with all of you that said that, Mo'Nique was great in that.

Here are the other films I thought of:

The Silence of the Lambs - Antony Hopkins & Jodie Foster - The Silence of the Lambs (9/12) Movie CLIP - Screaming Lambs (1991) HD - YouTube Great acting.

Monster - Charlize Theron (Again great acting, especially the shooting of the old man scene)

If you lot have anymore keep on adding to the list . We can debate on everyone's suggestions :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:.

Bryan Cranston's one of my favorite actors, I'm sure you guys all know how much his performance has been praised though. He does deserve it.

Lily Rabe really impresses me on American Horror Story, she was at her best playing Mary Eunice in Season 2. Practically anyone on American Horror Story is an amazing actor though, their cast is just phenomenal.

Kevin Conroy's also my favorite Batman, from part time Justice League member to cranky old Bruce in Batman Beyond. His voice is the best Batman voice.
