Maybe it's a sign of the times and our modern lifestyles, but increasing numbers of us seem to have allergies, some of which are very serious or life threatening.

I am allergic to the drug Ibuprofen. If I take Ibuprofen, even in small doses, I come out in a severe, lumpy rash.

Do you have any allergies? What are the symptoms and how serious is the allergy?

I think I am allergic to dust. When I exposed to it my nostrils burns and have hard time to breath, my hands get that burning sensation if I touch something very dusty.

Also certain kind of paper(low quality cardboard) dust makes me itchy. If I wasn't working in a printhouse probably I wouldn't know that.

Both kinds are just annoying. Nothing life threatening or severe.

I don't have any food allergies or allergies to drugs.

That said, I take antihistamines daily to deal with allergic rhinitis from pollen of many types of trees and grasses.

I also sometimes develop contact dermatitis (especially if skin is very dry). I develop rashes if my skin touches certain crab juices, citrus fruit juices, household chemicals (e.g. Windex), scented lotions (Bath & Body Works is a big culprit :lol:slight_smile:. These rashes/allergies usually happen more often in the winter when I'm suffering from "winter skin."

I use Cetaphil as a lotion.

Nothing life threatening, though. Just annoying.

"Winter skin"? I can tell you about "winter skin". LOL. We have real winters up here.

Anyways, yes, I sneeze after grass is freshly cut or the temperature changes drastically as it does here often. Was short of breath earlier and took my bronchial supplement. All better now.

Not really. I had asthma, but it doesn't trouble me these days.

Haha, my skin is actually very sensitive to the cold, dry air. If I don't keep moisturizing, even washing my hands can cause me to bleed a bit between the knuckles. I would be on prescription lotions if I lived in Michigan .

Yeah, my brother has to have prescription lotions. He jammed his hand after his car door iced over a couple years ago. The medicine he took helped heal the fracture, but his skin on that hand is always dry, especially during the winter.

Gluten (severe), oats (basically the same thing as the gluten) lactose (mild, but I'm vegan, anyway), certain grasses, a spider I don't know the name of (I was bitten and my whole leg got covered in an itchy and inflamed rash). Also, some air conditioners (especially in closed rooms, so I think it's certain types of dust) make my eyes water and my nose very itchy.

I am of very poor genetic stock.

I have a similar reaction to Ibuprofen and several other NSAIDs. The weird thing is that if I take it when I have a headache/fever it actually makes me feel a lot better, even with the rash.

I did once take it deliberately to get out of an exam. Not something I'd recommend, but it worked!

I'm allergic to prawn/shrimp/crab/lobster/certain fish. I get a big lump in my throat and my eyes and arms start itching like crazy. My brother loves taking prawns and waving them in front of my face and taunting me, because I wasn't always allergic to them and I used to like them a lot before I was.

I have a slight allergic reaction to dogs and cats, my nose gets stuffy and my throat gets sore. It's relatively recent, I didn't notice the symptoms before last year.

This year I've also been affected by pollen with similar rhinitic symptoms, but thankfully it already passed.

I have hay fever. So spring time is awful for me. My nose can't stop running and I sneeze often...and loudly. I think eventually my lungs will fly out of my mouth. I've been swallowing like 2 allergy pills a day the past month, but doesn't always help with the runny nose.

I'm also allergic to nickel, can't wear cheap jewelry unless it's steel or brass. I'm fine with gold, silver, and titanium also as long as there's no nickel on the outside.

Allergic to horses wicked badly. My airways will close up if I'm around them for 10+ minutes. It stinks because as a little kid I was fine around them and I wanted to horseback ride. My dream was ruined by allergies.

I used to get eczema badly, but it's improved over the years. My skin is pretty clear now. But man, as a teenager, the stress just made it horrible and I was on every single cream, ointment, and oral pill you can imagine. Not fun.

I'm only allergic to penicillin but it's pretty severe. I've only taken it once, as a baby, and I apparently broke out in a rash and my throat swelled up.

Ive started to develop seasonal allergies, and cats. One of the affects of my allergies is dry, red, itchy eye. Thats right I said eye, as in one eyeball. It only affects my right eye, my left eye is completly unaffected

Deathly allergic to insect stings; fire ants, wasps, bees, etc.
Pollen, especially from live oak... which are all over the place here, ugh.
    Dust.
    Spinach. Yeah.
Grass makes me break out in a rash if I touch it and inhaling fresh mowed grass in the air makes me sneeze and cough. If I owned my own place I'd have the whole yard ripped up and put rocks down instead. I loathe grass.
