So, as you will all know, Australia's current PM is the dreadful Tony Abbott, who can be described like this:

And I hate the bastard. Right-wing, racist, sexist, and really just an all-round idiot.

But some of you are fortunate enough to have leaders who don't make you embarrassed. What do you think of your government?

I live in America. It's better in some regards, it's questionable in others. I love those who make me believe it's better, and I dislike those who make me question that. The government, the bulk at least, is self-serving and insensitive to a lot of issues.

A black associate of mine told me, "America is great if you're a rich white male. It's even better, if you're a rich white male, that uses the love of God, to hate non-rich, non-white, non-males."

Is there truth to that? Perhaps. For me, I tend to view the two dominant political parties here -- Republican and Democratic -- as two sides of the same hand. You're only voting for how you wish to be slapped, a traditional slap, or the backhand.

Two words: Power obsessed

The government here fight wars that don't need to be fought and is going to get us killed one day and they spend money on useless things causing our country to be in debt and not recover from before I was born.
And China is where are money goes.
And no child left behind is causing problems. I can't multiply two digit numbers or subtract and I beat the educational standards.
18 year olds can't do basic math.
Reliant on calculators and no one can spell. But that doesn't matter as long as they have the power.
And are government is God religion bias.
Money one nation under God.
In the pledge is God.
The pledge also claims one nation under God which isn't true if their is a God, he cares about all nations. And why are school children pledging to their government anyway?
Power obsessed and we are not a free country yet.
Women still have sexism and rape culture still happens, Christian is suppossed to be the American way, and gay and trans are still looked down upon. We have a lot of work but the government doesn't care, it keeps them in power.

Don't even ask. Corruption is still a major deal here with millions of money that was stolen from the people and this all started after (even during) the Marcos Regime around the 1960's. I can say he was regarded as the best president in our country because there was a time in his term where there were a lot of infrastructure that was built, the Philippine Peso was equivalent to 1 US dollar, Philippines was only second to Singapore hailing as one of the few developed countries in Asia back then. Marcos was a very smart guy and he knew that his term was going to end so he declared Martial law and thus the People Power was born.

The Philippine economy began to deteriorate due to corruption and our former president, Arroyo is regarded as one of the worst president to date since and it's only now that these politicians are getting caught from all of their secret agendas as well as money stolen from the people.

In theory, I like our government, in practice, it's often a madhouse.

It depends on what part of government. In the US, it's not very helpful saying "the government" because there are so many different levels and agencies. In general, I find myself happier with the lowest level (e.g. county or city).

On a national level, I am frankly less than happy. It's all about politics, politics, politics. Sometimes I feel like it's like watching a football game between rival high schools. Except the loser isn't one of the teams, it's the citizens of the US. And, to a great degree, the world. For example, we have one political party in this country that can't get its head out of its ass long enough to realize that climate change is a reality, and what we do to address climate change effects the whole world.

Some things I agree with (getting rid of some handouts, and cutting foreign aid), some I don't (everything else). However, it would be nice if they stopped marginalising refugees, students, the poor and the working class, and were far more transparent.

Also, austerity is possibly the most short sighted and pointless method in paying back debt. Wouldn't closing loopholes and being tough on tax evasion be more profitable than taking money and services from those who actually need it.

At the Federal level, I find the current United States government to be reasonably good. I voted for President Obama twice and cried both times when he won. I will volunteer in campaign efforts if Hillary Clinton runs. Things that I've agreed with/ liked about the Obama administration are the following:
• Greater efforts in international diplomacy
• Vocal support for LGBTQ-identified people and other minority groups
• Basically well-delivered foreign aid
• Increasing the age of students able to stay on their parents' health insurance
• Efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels

Things that I've disagreed with include:
• Lack of support for Palestine
• Not closing Quantanamo Bay
• Not having the Secretary General challenge states in violation of the Constitution
• Not paying more attention to public education

Furthermore, I find much of the Senate and Congress to be comprised of squabbling children. The Republicans are just mad and the Democrats are too conciliatory.

At the state level, I have been almost always disappointed. The states often lack the intellectual and moral resources to govern themselves appropriately... However, I'm about to move to a much more enlightened state so, that might change my Federalist stance...

I'm of the opinion that disagreeing with one's government is a civic duty. Nothing gets better if we are complacent.

I can't say I'm angry. The Gov't does a lot of stepping in to make wrongs into rights or at least tries to & I don't mind this. Corrupt? Of course, I believe every Gov't is one way or another.

It varies by whether it's federal, state, county, and municipal in most cases. It also varies by specific departments or wings of those listed above.

I'm guessing that, on a global level, "the government" for the U.S. is seen as the Executive Office and the Presidency. As for the President, all I can say is how thankful I am that Romney and his cronies are not in there. I was worried during the primaries, the debates, and the whole process.

Obama has had to go through uncharted territory - an economy so bad, unlike anything seen in about 70 or so years. He steered around an outright depression, he bailed out some automakers so that those parts of the country didn't rust, a more equitable though imperfect health insurance system is in place, our currency is slowly gaining on the others from when we hit bottom, and we no longer see news clips of 5,000 people applying for 85 jobs. Now that was depressing. I just hope it keeps getting better, and here I'm talking about the economy ... ours and the global one.

Worst I've known or ever heard about.

You probably heard last year's protests in here... that was just the tip of the iceberg.

In my eye current government using religion to abuse people's feelings to stay on power and drag country to more medieval times.

There is greed, hate and wrongs wherever you look.

It is like a nightmare.

16. One word. Unproductive.

Our current congress couldn't seem to agree on anything. Our House Republicans are acting like babies, saying no to things that are good. One prime example is the Immigration Bill of 2013, which will lead 11 million undocumented immigrants on a path to citizenship, assimilate them into U.S society, and strengthen our border security in the south-west.

It's drafted by a BIPARTISAN group, which included both sides of the political spectrum. It passed the senate with a two-thirds vote (Democrats only hold 53% of the Senate seats). House is not even budging on the bill due to the accumulated tea-party Republicans.

Our current congress has the lowest approval rating in decades and is the most unproductive congress ever.

There is also some debate on whether the federal government should be more unitary (centralized) or be more divided among the states. I'm not sure how we can achieve a balance since the Articles of Confederation proved that strong state governments aren't good and the Federalist government run by John Adams proved that a strong central government isn't good as well (Alien and Sedition Acts).

State level: Our governor Jay Nixon is pretty cool and chill (I met him and talked to him for a bit this last Summer, and asked him about Same Sex Marriage and he said he was "evolving", and two months later he came out in full support of it.) Too many radical republicans in the General Assembly, though.

Federal Level: I can't say President Obama is my favorite President, but I think he's done an all right job, better than McCain or Moneybags Mitt would have done. Again, too many republicans in the house, and possibly the senate.

If you count Angus King (I-ME) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), they have 55% democratic leaning.

So record Stock Market numbers and recovering all the jobs of the Great Recession doesn't count for anything? It can also be said that the Gov't gives too many powers to the states as well.

I renounce all affiliation to the united kingdom as 'my country'. However, the question still stands, so I suppose I'd have to say I loathe it with every fiber of my being.
