Is this flag racist to you? I can't help but take it as a symbol of racism due to its history. But these people by me claim it is their symbol of southern pride (While In New York no less LOL)

But what is your thoughts on this? Just curious.

If you don't think it's racist, you're probably racist.

A flag and a quasi-nation whose existence relied on slavery and other deliberate racial stratification cannot be excused. To be proud of its legacy is to be proud of slavery. The very few reasonable excuses are overwhelmed by the importance of arguments against it; the violence it represents exists to this day and anyone who uses it should know full well what the implications are. If you want to show pride, fly your state flag.

Yes, it is. The ONLY reason the CSA existed was because of slavery.

Whether any given Southerner likes it or not, it's a universal symbol for racial oppression.

Northerners and southerners around the time of the civil war were just about equally racist. Southerners simply needed slaves for a longer period of time due to their primary economy (plantations), so they were more vocal in perhaps trying to justify themselves.

I believe Georgia had it on their flag until 2001.

I think it's a little of both. I live in Georgia, so I see them everywhere.

While it certainly has a racist past, I don't think most people use it for that reason. I personally would never use it, but I don't blame the people who use it as a symbol for their "southern pride."

These are the sounthern pride symbols I use.

Correct, I should have said "national" or "federal."

Any (constituent to the US) state flag with it still on their own flag needs to reform.

Good luck trying to get the most backwards state in the Union to do that. They just ratified the 13th Amendment in 2013. Yes, the one banning slavery.

Very much so. People in other parts of Texas have confederate flag bumper stickers. A lot of people. But if you have a rainbow flag, your car gets vandalized. Racism is common in non-urban areas here. Just as normal as can be to them.

Yep. It lasted from 1956 till 2001.

    This is our current flag.

The only problem I have with it is they felt the need to add "In God we trust." Other than that, I think our new flag is awesome.

I don't see why my fellow Georgians can't use the current flag since it still has the Seal of Georgia, but I don't like to judge... (unless I know the person is a racist ass, then I judge away)

    it's a flag...

Unless it said "FUCK BLACK PEOPLE!" then maybe. It's a old flag whose meaning has been lost to time and nothing more. People can try and make it mean something more but they are just taking dead ideals from a different time and putting them in a spotlight.
Only idiots idolize failure. The people who idolize this flag, and put meaning into it, are idiots.

Most people who have the flag probably have had racist thoughts.

My family lived under that flag, but I wouldn't wave it . The only way that flag would make it on my home would be as a historical reminder of the "Six Flags Over Texas."

Yup, I would believe most with that flag have racist thoughts, lol
