Gay trans man kissing on Orphan Black.

I know I already have an Orphan Black thread, but I really think everyone should hear this.

In the most recent episode of the BBC drama Orphan Black, they introduced a new clone as a character. This clone is a trans man, and also gay (or maybe bisexual, not sure). In this episode, he's shown kissing another character Felix. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this hasn't been done on any other show. If I try to come up with another recurring trans character, I'm not sure I can come up with one. And I've definitely never seen a show on TV depict LGBT characters better than Orphan Black, even if Felix is a stereotype. Most shows never seem to depict LGBT people in a sexual way, despite being very comfortable showing straight sexuality. I think that this is a pretty big step in the right direction.

There was Max, from The L Word, though I'm not sure if he'd be considered bisexual or full on gay.

Hmm, I can't find a way to edit my first post...

I've never seen The L word, is it good? I'm usually not really interested in things that don't have action or aliens in them, but it might be worth watching.

Don't like that twist at all, why on earth would Felix kiss a clone of his adoptive sister? I know he is pretty promiscuous but that is borderline incestuous! Its as though the writers have thrown that in there to shock rather than to add to the story. Shame.

I've never seen Orphan Black, but maybe It's worth looking into.

Can't reccommend the L word; as a lesbian I felt almost insulted watching it and had to turn it off before it made me angrier. I think it was made for horny straight men.

    ???

The L Word was created by a lesbian tho... It may not be a great show, but I don't think it was created just for horny straight men...

Sorry if I implied that it was created by a straight man or intentionally only for straight men....I more so mean that it comes off that way if you try to watch it as an actual lesbian person.

The worst part of it was the fact the characters I'm supposed to 'relate' to in the show all came off as being horndogs who couldn't be monogamous and commit. As a drama TV show, this is usually fine, except the fact straight people who don't see TV about anything else LGBT related are going to assume 'yeah, they're all like that". There was nothing relatable or enjoyable in this show to me as a sexually reserved lesbian.

Sex scenes I don't mind (I enjoy them like anyone else) so I don't rag on it just for being a sexual show; It's just executed so poorly. I felt like I was watching a badly filmed lesbian porn with some added 'plot' in between.

Ha, yeah, not to mention the injustice it did for members of the trans and bisexual communities. Where were the butch lesbians? What of working class women? So much room for improvement, as far as queer visibility in the media goes.

Heh, firstly Felix is only a foster brother to Sarah, so neither blood- or environmentally-related to Tony (or any of the other clones, for that matter). Secondly, Tony was the one who initiated it, and Felix mostly resisted. So I don't see any incestuousness.

I agree with Wuggums, Orphan Black, minus Felix being a stereotype (but hey, there are after all people that fit the stereotype) they've done a great job with queer stuff. Their trans character introduction bumped it up a few more notches in my book, and it was already pretty high up there.

Wow, now that I think of Tony as Felix's clone brother, it does get kind of creepy.
