What are your thoughts of the word "sissy"

It is a description? Derogatory? A term of endearment?

    Interested in everyone's opinions.

    Thanks.

    Connie.

Will if anyone calls ME that, I will break their nose (metaphorically, I'm strictly non-violent).

As I understand it, the term is most commonly used to describe someone who gets sexual pleasure by acting like a submissive girl...is that right?

    I feel the same way.

And that is my understanding for the use of the word.

It's definitely derogatory, unless you're using it as a synonym for "sister."

It wouldn't bother me much, personally. I'd choose "sissy" over "dyke" ANY DAY. I can understand how it can bother other people, though.

It's one of a whole load of terms I find particularly annoying because people think it doesn't sound too aggressive and therefore must be fine to use.

Another one that bothers me is 'T-girl', because obviously it doesn't SOUND too bad, and if you are being generous has its routes from 'trans girl', but it's not something I think you should call someone else unless they ask you to...but people seem to think it's appropriate to do so because it doesn't sound as bad as other words.

i hate it.. i get called it quite often as an insult towards me, because people are jerks about it... People at my school especially call me things like (i hate saying this word as well, rubs me wrong) "sissy faggot" because im gay and im more feminine than i am masculine. But big whoop, people can just deal with it. But anyways yeah... i dont like it for that reason.. and i hate being called it.. but, thats just my opinion anyways.

I don't like it, but it's better than the 3 letter word, unless they are used together like above. ^

I HATE IT! I've been called this my entire life by family members (mostly uncles and older male cousins). It's like if you're a guy, you have to be Mr. Manly Man or you're "a fag"...

It fuels my anger like nothing else. The word makes it seem like being a woman is something to be ashamed of, which is so wrong.

I saw an article titled " How we're teaching our kids to be sissies." It was about how kids today have it to easy so they aren't prepared for the future. I saw it being shared by a lot of folks on FB. Made me pretty mad. Horrible word that is anti-gay, anti-trans, and anti-women.

I cannot stand the word. It's an insult. I think it's worse than faggot or queer. It says you don't measure up as a man. To be sure, it's usually directed to a child or teen...very hurtful. Good way to start a bar fight though.

I can understand how many people would be strongly offended by the word, but my experience with it has always been situations like, me being scared of killing a spider and someone calling me a "sissy" for it jokingly. The only time it would ever really have gotten to me would be on the sports field, but that never happened.

Now that I think about it, the implication of the word in that situation is sexist in ways, but most the time I hear it is used as a synonymous for "chicken"

A transvestite male was hitting on me and on his tumblr it said Sissy. So I would think it means a male who likes femininity.
