Note: even if you don't believe in Jesus in a Religious way, it is almost universally agreed upon that there really was a Jesus in history.

I've noticed tons of people seem to think that if Jesus where alive today, he would support right wing politics. I'm skeptical of that, considering he was actually a huge radical. He tore down the Jewish people's most important temple, he criticized the pharosees(the authority figures of the time) and called them hypocrites. He said many things that got the authorities riled up, like saying that God can forgive sins, etc… Everything he did was pretty far left for the time in my eyes.

People today say that Jesus would support laws that help the rich keep more of their money, but when a tax collector wanted to follow him, he told him to give away all his money first. He said that it is difficult for a rich man to go to heaven. He talked to women in a time where that was unacceptable, and he never treated them like they where less than men. He talked to people who weren't jews, like the samaritans, and back then people where very prejudiced about things like that. I think he would be all in favor of socialized healthcare and LGBT rights.

This will really piss the more conservative minded members of this forum off, but I'm certain the person of Jesus (setting aside the debates, arguments and stories about his divinity and ability to perform miracles) would be a Liberal/Socialist.

I think that if Jesus existed, then accounts of his life have been so distorted as to be entirely useless. Thus, I really couldn't say.

I think he would be an independent. Political parties are too specific and I don't think Jesus could perfectly fit into any of them.

Plus, he was a rebel, and he liked doing his own thing. In the non-party sense, I think Jesus would be either libertarian, libreal, or both.

Jesus probably wouldn't vote. He'd be a hippie that wandered the land, with his rabble-rousing friends, unshaven, long haired, and too busy doing his own thing.

He'd be a jobless bum to many, I'm sure.

He'd be an independent. And he most certainly wouldn't ever vote Republican and he would support universal health care and oppose food stamp cuts. After all, legend has it he fed 5,000 people for free. Can you imagine Jesus talking like a Republican?

"I can't heal your sickness because of your pre-existing condition!"

    Yep, I also agree.

He definitely wouldn't be one of these greedy, Tea-Bagging Republicans who are always trying to find new ways to screw over poor people.

Jesus wouldn't have a political party in my opinion. Whats right is right whats wrong is wrong. Jesus would want people to treat each-other kindly, He'd be all for helping the poor. thats about it

He'd be an independent. I can't see him picking strictly right or left. He would be one of a kind in his views and not follow the lead of some other party, I'm sure.

The title of this thread gave me such a great laugh.

Seeing as the historical Jesus was probably a preacher of the coming apocalypse within the next generation of his life, I guess he would just ignore politics continue telling people to give up all material possessions to live lives of ascetic devotion to God.

I think we can rule out the far right simply because of their intolerance and hate.

Jesus would probably say many religious conservatives are the modern Pharisees.

So...that leaves us with the more liberal parties. Truth be told, I'm not sure that Jesus would 100% love the Democrats, though. So I suppose "Independent" would be the best label.

However...it is worth nothing that Jesus probably would, to my mind, have limited interest in politics. Jesus' interest was with spiritual matters, not worldly.
