Today my family and I were having ice cream, the flavors.were pistachio, chocolate and vanilla. I asked for vanilla and my mom out right said no your having chocolate. She has done this even when I was a kid telling me vanilla was not the right favor for me and I should eat chocolate. I hate chocolate ice cream , no matter how many times she gave it to me ,I even hate all chocolate cake. Now I'm wondering do ice cream applyto gender like girls eat chocolate and suppose to like it and men only eat vanilla and like it. So now gender roles apply with food and snacks?

What...I didn't think they did  also thats pretty petty that your mother made to eat a flavor you clearly don't like. Im sorry if this question is invasive but do you think its more about your mother wanting to control what you do rather than gender roles?

I have to agree with this. Certain flavours being gender specific is the stupidest thing I've heard.

lol oh my gawd these types of people are just incredible.

Like whatever your mum's reason is for denyin you to have vanilla aside (and there is no valid reason for this nonsense bullshit) the fact that she's obviously so power-hungry and has to lord over what ice cream you can have is blowin my mind. just wow.

What is with these people who just have to have power over people like this?

It's certainly not a manly icecream without having nails and broken glass as sprinklers.

I've never heard of that particular one! If I really had to think about it, if anything I'd see vanilla as a "softer" feminine flavour, and chocolate as masculine (more calories, stronger flavour?). But that is really over-thinking it, and I like all of them!

In terms of gendering food there are a few cliches. Steaks being manly, and salads being feminine. But its all a load of rubbish. You have male vegetarians, and ladies who love steak. Has no bearing on their gender in my book.

she says the best way to raise children is to control them. My mom's sister said she's been this way since they were kids, she once tried to control the type of make up I wear. And even made me buy the wrong product .

She sounds incredibly controlling. Her frozen bean milk preference should not apply to you. My mother does this to a lesser extent- she wants me to be just like her. Unless your mom would physically harm you or otherwise punish you unfairly, I suggest you take a stand. I have, and now my mom respects me for it. Sees me as an individual.
    Good luck.

Chocolate tends to be stereotyped as something women crave. I say bunk to that. I love it and you see many guys with chocolate ice cream or yogurt on their tables.

As for all the other major flavors, I don't think there is any gender distinction whatsoever. Vanilla is definitely not associated with masculinity. There seem to be vanilla scents, candles, and extracts for baking and flavoring. I think your mom was being a little rigid about her beliefs here.

If I had to guess, I would think the tropical fruit sherberts might be preferred by women, but I've never seen a study on this. I'm sure there is one, though.

I have heard of the stereotype that girls love chocolate... but I don't think there's any stereotype that boys love vanilla...

So uh, I am going to pin this as a "really bad parenting" issue over a food having gender roles. Like I know some guys are insecure about yogurt (lol) but uh, yeah :c I hope you can get out soon that sounds terrible...
