Matthew Mitcham just won the Gold medal in the 10m platform at Beijing - on his last dive which was almost total perfection. He scored 112.1 to move from 2nd to 1st and steal the Gold from the Chinese.

Yup -and he sounds like he really has his shit together. He applied for (and presumably did get) a grant to have his partner, Lachlan, accompany him to the Olympics. He has definitely been through some tough times - but has come out the other side...and is now a deserving Gold medallist.

I watched him in the semis, and I was so happy when I saw he took gold! Yay! Two Canadians were close to steal the gold from the Chinese in diving (Alexandre Despatie and Émilie Heymans, they got silver) so I'm really glad he got the gold there. No offense to the Chinese, but I always prefer the underdog, and the Chinese totally dominated in diving, which was annoying...

But great victory for him! He should be proud to be out and an Olympic champion!

P.S. Did anyone notice the music choices during the diving competitions? They played Dancing Queen (ABBA) and some Kylie Minogue too. Pretty gay :P

i watched the finals earlier, he truly deserves the medal, in my opinion, he performed amazingly, he pulled off his dive with perfection.

the more LGBT people in popular culture the better in my opinion, i think it's the only way to show the world that stereotypes should be abolished.

I'm almost positive that Finchum is in the closet. My gaydar goes beserk when I see him.

Speaking of gaydar, it just confirms it. I had an inkling that Mitcham was gay and meant to google him to see if he was out or not, but looks like I don't have to anymore

Wow, that is awesome! I'm ashamed to say I've just been too dang busy to follow the Olympics but this news is great. Now we should start a petition to bring Gold Medalist Matthew Mitcham to Empty Closets.
