My first reaction: Why isn't Shang on there? My second reaction: Maybe this was based a little bit too much off of stereotypes, but the symbolism (Rapunzel and her tower) does make sense.
Something I've often wondered, especially between Timon and Pumba. I'm just glad that Disney is letting their viewers (especially children) know that gays are out there and are as lovable as Gobber. Not to mention that the world is accepting it as appropriate for children, even if only for a moment.
It does appear to work at first, but if you make the supposed symbolism vague enough, anything works. Any instance of conflict can be interpreted to represent nearly any other instance of conflict. I'm inclined to believe that the link is satirical, and the few telling bits of evidence given are just effective enough to get some lols. *Nychthemeron: Li Shang from Mulan? That guy was awesome! And it's totally plausible he likes guys hehe.
Timon and Pumbaa? I can totally see that. Rapunzel? Not really. I agree with Argentwing. Wanting to come out of her tower could really just be as simple as, well, wanting to come out of her tower.
Also, some people believe Merida from Brave is gay. Does It Matter If the Heroine of 'Brave' Is Gay? - Chris Heller - The Atlantic
Yes. Apparently, it's obvious that he had feelings for Mulan before he found out her true gender. People are saying this is both a nod to the bisexual/gay community and the transgender community, which I thought was super cool.
