Talking to friends on phone or in person, listening to positive music, having a dog or cat.

It depends on what's depressing me. Sometimes it's listening to music that helps me clear my head, sometimes it's taking a nap and just shutting everyone and everything out for a while, sometimes it's talking to a good friend about it.

I find that stalking people helps me. But yeah...interacting with pleasant things usually work. Try searching for "uplifting music".

    Regarding positive music:
I guess this totally depends on your personal music tastes, you should probably keep your hands off death metal or stuff like that, though (but I can imagine that there are quite a few people out there who consider that kind of music calming, too...).

As for myself, a song that never fails to cheer me up: :icon_bigg

Watching through a tv series with a happy ending for a character who goes through shit. Makes you realize you can get through things too.

Well, that's good. I'm glad you're not wanting to harm yourself.

Usually, what helps me is talking to friends, playing games, sketching, something that requires some though. Watching TV doesn't help me. Sometimes, I go shopping, but I try to limit that, as I'm trying to save enough money to move and therefore am in penny-pinching mode.

I think one of the best ways to ease feelings of depression is to give something back through volunteering your time. There's a lot to be said for getting involved in something that will make a difference to other people, animals, the community or environment. Gets you out of the house and meeting other people (usually) and you get that feel good factor from doing something worthwhile. Also, your talents are put to good use and you can learn new skills.

Get out of the house...swim, go to an art museum, meet up with a friend, walk the dog...anything, but being alone in the house.

Sitting in a garden or a park if you don't have a garden.
    A long, aimless walk.

I always have to watch if I don't get enough sleep because I'll get down on myself when I'm tired. I find if I spend too much time alone (i'm kind of introvert) will also begin to get me down. I find exercise but even just getting out and going for a walk helps.
