I've heard that swearing is healthy and helps reduce stress. It seems pretty logical to me... But I suppose there are numerous reasons for swearing...

Because that shit is fucking fantastic.

    ...

I only do it when I'm really excited or really frustrated. Or to (try to) be funny.

I actually don't ever swear when I'm angry. I swear whenever I'm in a positive move. And I really use it for comedic effect.

    Emphasis for/on a point.

    An emotional release of sorts.

Expressing an extreme happiness or extreme frustration.

The trick isn't how much you cuss, but how. If you're going to curse, do it with fuckin' class.

I don't really swear at all. I've tried saying the words, but it's like liquid mercury in my mouth.

I only do it ALL THE TIME. More so when I'm happy...I don't get pissed very often. It just goes with my carefree personality, really.

It's a way to channel strong feelings into words without being burdened by excess verbiage. Instead of saying "This pain leaves me quite displeased" you can say "motherf***!" and it feels better. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That said, I try not to do it too much. It does sound very crude and it's best not to make a habit out of it.

Swearing to me is very therapeutic but I have to use a G rated version because I have nieces and nephews plus my mom will give me the evil eye if I do.

Hell if I know. I just picked it up when I got out of my mom's house and now saying things like "that damn dog" or "that f@#%ing idiot" are more natural as saying "the cat" or "that jerk". I actually have tried to reduce the amount of swearing I do but it is difficult because it has become a part of my normal speech patterns. And my favorite one is calling someone "dumb ass", I guess I watched too much Red Forman on That 70's Show.

I only swear in extreme circumstances, usually when I'm very scared, very angry, or in a lot of pain. The first time my friends heard me cuss was when I called one of 'em a f*cktard for slamming his foot on the gas pedal when I wasn't completely in the car yet. It's a quick and easy way to release strong emotions, I guess.

Swearing in certain situations, like when I hit myself, creates a psychological effect where saying the word with emphasis produces the greatest amount of pain relief.
