First and foremost, I'd like to apologize to any people out there who dislike being referred to as FtM or MtF, but it was shorter than "The Ratio of Trans Men to Trans Women," so sorry.

Most statistics I've seen claimed that trans men were less prevalent than trans women, but after scouring some transgender-friendly forums, I've seen much more trans men than trans women.

However, oddly enough, many documentaries, videos, movies, and news articles I see usually feature trans women instead of trans men.

It's as if trans men are more prevalent online while trans women are more prevalent offline.

    Is it only me?

I honestly thought it wouldn't fit, but if it's a problem, then would a moderator change the title to "The Ratio of Trans Men to Trans Women," please?

I definitely agree with that, I see a lot more trans men online (maybe because I look for them for advice and whatnot) but in mainstream media and stuff like that it's mainly trans women.

I would think it to be about equal like cis women and cis men.

I think there are more trans women according to polls that I remember seeing. Although it seems to me on this site there are lots more trans men.

I honestly don't know that many trans people. When I was on a dating site there was a surprising amount of FAAB genderqueers. In real life I've seen more trans women, but I think that's because trans men either look like cis men or butch lesbians.

I've always wondered about that. It seems transwomen are more prevalent, but maybe it's just cause they get more media attention etc.
It might also be because women looking like men are more acceptable these days, since many cis women wear suits and pants and have short hair, whereas a man in a dress is still seen as an odd thing.
( Please excuse the " man in a dress" thing, it sounds awful, but that's essentially how society sees it. )
Probably because our society values masculinity more than femininity, so it makes "sense" for women to aspire to masculinity, whereas someone wanting to eschew their " superior" masculinity in favour of femininity is seen as counter-intuitive.

I was actually just wondering that! From what I have noticed, it seems that there are more Trans Men than the other way around.

Why is MtF more common than FtM? : asktransgender

Here's a reddit thing I found. Do you think it's accurate? Particularly the

    "Trans men who pass: men
Trans men who don't pass: butch lesbians
    Voila! No visible trans men."

    thing?

But couldn't this be used the same way for trans women?

Trans women who pass = women
Trans women who don't pass = effeminate gay men?

Well, that still wouldn't really be accurate. There are effeminate gay trans men and masculine gay trans women too.

I've seen equal amounts. It seems about equal on this website I think. A lot of other websites I go on seem to be primarily made for trans women so there aren't as many trans men, but I've heard that the ratio is about 1:1
I only know 2 trans people (that I know of) and 1 is a trans women and the other is a trans man

I don't know the actual statistics, but I know that in my personal circle of friends, I know far more trans women than trans men.

I think it'd be more Transwomen who don't pass = guy in a dress.

Yeah, it does seem to be more equal on this website. As a matter of fact, until I signed up, I've only met one trans woman online (and offline). I just found that... odd, considering the ratio I've seen everywhere.

... that's unfortunately true, in some cases.

I think I've met slightly more trans* men.

How can you tell if someone's trans just by looking at them, I might have seen a ton of them without knowing it by now

Sorry for not being clear. I meant online, particularly on sites like these, or just when they openly state that they're trans.

In that case I'm still not sure, it seems pretty even in the media and forums I've seen, particularly here - admittedly a limited data pool since I'm only active on three forums including this one.

I only know one trans person offline, and he's a trans guy. As far as EC goes, I see a lot of both.

online it depends on the website but in general the total amount of trans men and trans women are about the same
