I've been thinking about this for some time. I know that where i'm currently living same-sex marriage may never be legal but fantasised, on some occasions, about getting married. As you all know, it is conventional that when straight people get married, the wife takes the husband's surname. If you were to get married, would u take your partner's surname, have them take yours or keep your different surnames??

As for me i love the idea of using both our surnames as our last names. Eg, if i am A Smith and he, X Brown, we'd both have Brown-Smith as our last name.

I would rather take my partner's last name, regardless of gender. I hate my last name, to be quite honest, which will probably make my parents very sad, but yeah.

EDIT: Reading Hexagon's comment made me remember how much marriages cost. I can already feel my wedding plans slipping away.

Maybe we'll find a new name. But I doubt I'll ever marry.

I'll see then  Depends on their last name. If it's a guy, we could still have my last name! (I hate my current last name, but I'll have my mom's last name by Christmas)

I've always said that people, regardless of their orientation's, ought to amalgamate their two last names and create a new one.

E.g., Malcolm Reynolds and Inara Serra = Malcolm and Inara Reyna, or M&I Serolds, or what have you. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

If not that I'd just as soon have the names stay the same.

Yes, that! Or, something I've also been thinking about, take half of each other's surnames and put them togheter in a way that we can come up with some original that sounds well .

    forever alone tough:lol:

I don't like the idea of taking someone's surname. Even with straight couples, it just seems like a really strange concept to me tbh.

I won't be getting married but I'll play along.

I'd definitely keep my surname and would want the partner to keep theirs too. Having worked in data-entry I now absolutely despise double barreled surnames (more to key and they always seem to end up creating system errors!)!

Maybe combining the names..... I truly hate mine because of all the teasing it has caused, but half of it is okay.

I don like my last name so I'd probably be willing to take his, unless it's worse than mine. If thats the case we can pick a new one

We've talked about this, and if we ever get married, we aren't changing our last names.

Probably keep my last name and him keep his. Unless it's a cool last name which I'd gladly take it

Well, I definitely don't plan on taking anyone else's surname, and I wouldn't expect anyone to take mine. The concept of merging them together to form a new surname doesn't sit well in my brain either, so I think we'll either keep our separate names or hyphenate them.

I would want one of us to take the other's last name. Who takes whose doesn't matter to me. It'd probably be up to her.

I will not be changing my surname, but my partner has mentioned adopting my surname when we get married, without any pressure from me.

If we combined our surnames it would sound really odd (as many people who know us have already observed). I think it's more likely that we'll just keep our surnames.

I don't like my last name so I would be happy to change it. If I marry a man, I'll gladly take his name. Same if I marry a woman. If I marry my girlfriend, I might suggest that we pick a completely separate last name and both change (she doesn't like her full name so she might legally change it anyway).

Nope. My parents would be crushed. If they can deal with me marrying a man(if it happens), that will be miracle enough.

It depends. I don't mind my surname. I guess it would just depend which of us had the better surname :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. Or we'd use both, I guess.
