How do you react, or how are you supposed to react, to the ole' "No you're not, you like ___" or "No you're not, you are ___"?
For example, my sister and her precocious little self saying, "No you're not, you like boys", to which i promptly replied, "Okay." I take it on pretty passively, beacause I'm sick of arguing.

I usually tell them they're not straight, and that I "went through a straight phase too, It'll always pass"

No one has ever said that to me, but I'd probably say something like "ohhhh sorry, I should have realised you know more about me than I do. So silly of me! I suppose you know what my favourite flavour of ice cream is, too? I seem to have forgotten..."

If it's a guy I would say "in that case you are gay" .. once my friend (girl) told me that I am not gay and I was like "oh we are saying things that aren't truth, great game, okay, you love girls, yeah?" and she was "I get it..." . I don't get it much and it's not annoying, it's funny how some people think they know me better than, I know myself.

I hate when people say this to me. I usually answer with, "Are we really doing this?" Sometimes they drop it; sometimes they want to talk about why I'm wrong. I will occasionally say, "Yeah, sure, fine; I like whatever you want me to like," and at other times will say something like, "I like boys? Well thank God for that. Good thing you told me; I was worried for a second there that I might be gay."

It bothers me so much when people tell me I'm not a guy. I just respond with, "Yes, I am." Then I go on to explain the difference between sex and gender, gender expression and sexual orientation, all that. I've pretty much got it down to a quick 2-minute schpeel because I've had to do it so much. Basically, I just tell them that they don't understand.

That is a huge problem in the day we now live in. People rather make a judgement which makes them comfortable or stereotype you as someone your not. I get this problem a lot with my disability and people think I am more disabled than I really am. Like sorry I am not retarded or sorry but I am gay. It is rude and especially when they act like they know you. My sister for her own selfish reasons decided to deny me as a gay person and she never was homophobic in her life but when I came out it was hell on earth with her. Like she wanted a reason to alienate me and get me out of her life and she was gonna find every reason possible and she has been doing that for years. Her wedding was terribly awkward because of how she treated me. I felt like a complete stranger while all the other relatives were treated better.

I too, used to be passive with these kinds of remarks. After awhile I just learned to tell people to shut it and that I had every right to be the way that I am. As for drag when I got the old " You're not going to dress like that " or " Why do you have to do that?" I finally told them that I could do whatever I wanted, I'm not a child and I'm not under anyone's supervision. That it's not hurting them, it's bothering them - there's a difference.

I haven't had this happen to me yet, because I haven't really come out completely. My family's response when they found out that some of my friends were trans or lesbian was "They're too young to konw what they are. Do you know how many will be married by the time you have your high school reunion? Most of them. To men."
