Like above. Is it true? If so, why?

French fear the English. Hell, the French fears everyone and everything :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    (just kidding :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

So, there shouldn't be problems if I say to an English person that I have french origins?

Very true. Even though I spell "neighbouring" differently than you do!

Haha a funny topic. Guess it's much like Canada and the U.S. We like to make jokes about the U.S. and the U.S. barely notices we exist.

I think history plays a part in any hate between the two nations.
The UK's offer to the French to join the United Kingdom and the quick withdrawal of the offer may also play a part.

My French isn't all that good, although I can just about ask for a cheese baguette and a cup of tea (anything else I try to say usually goes wrong and instead of asking for directions, I mistakenly end up telling them that there's a cat on their table etc)

The French people who remember the war are usually more welcoming to the British (and the other nations whose brave men took part). As long as you try to speak French to them, they then are more friendly towards you.

I'm sorry, but it is impossible to see this and not think of Hetalia. Anyways, according to the anime series (which personifies all the countries in the world as people and is based on historical events), England and France hate each other. Throughout history, they have fought on opposing sides such as in the Hundreds' Year War and the Revolutionary War. To this day, you can see them both disagreeing with each other and fighting at world meetings. Though there are times when they can work together (as they're both in the Allied Forces during the World Wars) and it is mentioned in the movie Paint it White that, "In their upmost hearts, they truly do care for one another." They're even a popular ship in the fandom (FrUK). Here's a picture of them:

England's the one wearing green with the thick eyebrows. And don't mind the green thing. That's just England's flying mint bunny. Sorry if I seem like a bit of a troll or something. It's just somebody Hetalian had to comment on this.

Because they're human. And because having an enemy, whoever the enemy is, protects the government.

I don't think that's true. Americans are very aware of Canada, especially since it's literally right on top of the USA and is the second largest country in the world.

    Unless you were making a Hetalia joke. >>;

I'm honestly sick and tired of this country rivalry thing. Whenever I visit my Canadian relatives, they diss the USA and they make fun of me by calling me and/or other Americans stereotypical nicknames. It's why I'm overly-sensitive about stereotype remarks.

Don't get me wrong. The endless Canadian bashing gets on my nerves as well. Any sort of stereotype, really. It's irritating.

    This.

With the exception of Parisians. Who are said to despise the English. And other foreigners. And any French person not from Paris. I jest.

    :icon_bigg No, of course not.

It's just a friendly rivalry we've got going, I'd say France is actually the country we feel closest to beyond other English speaking countries.

    And Trafalgar!

It's great when the UK & France actually work together on things like Concorde etc.
At the moment, we even have a military alliance, though this may be something to do with our new aircraft carriers not being ready yet.

The Dutch are my favourite Europeans, but I don't think they get along with Germany all that well.

Because the frenchies all stink of garlic,

No seriously though, apart from a little friendly rivalry, most British people have no problem with France at all. Of course we have our disagreements and little squabbles now and again, but what countries don't? Personally, I don't have any issues with the French and wouldn't care if someone had French ancestry.

    Happy days
