So apparently genderqueer people do exist.

?

Excluding yourself if applicable, have you ever met an openly genderqueer person?

Today I went to an LGBT group, and when we went around and introduced ourselves, we where asked to state our preferred pronouns. Someone else besides me said they/them/theirs. They where also genderqueer. I was starting to think I would never meet another person like me, I never had before. It was really cool, and they were very nice and actually pretty cute. Unfortunately they're taken. Have you met any genderqueer people in real life?

No, you state your name and preferred pronouns. They don't make you label yourself.

And yes, I have met one at our Queer student center on campus. They were super nice!

Generally you just say what pronouns you wish to be called by.

I've seen many androgynous people, but I've only met one person who I think is genderqueer. They didn't want to be called by their female name, so they told people to call them a gender neutral name instead. They never mentioned anything about pronouns.

The first transgender person I ever met was genderfluid, and they said they didn't care what pronouns I used to refer to them. So I guess I just went with they. And they're super nice.

I know about 5 or 6 genderqueer people IRL. I used to identify as a form of genderqueer, so I met a lot of other genderqueer people.

I know a few genderqueer people in-person, and while not exactly 'GQ,' one of my closest friends identifies as agender/non-conforming.

Yes, we have a guy who is transitioning from female to male in my LGBT men's discussion group but has a ways to go from what he's told us, yet he still goes by his female name. Not sure how common that is.

If I've met anyone who's genderqueer in person, I wasn't aware of it at the time

Nope. I've only meet ONE trans person in my entire life. She was a transwoman who worked at Wal-Mart. She helped me buy my Frozen DVD. Super nice lady.

Ironically, I can count the number of LGBT people I've meet on my left hand. Ridiculous, I know, especially considering that I lived in a LGBT Mecca for the first 17 1/2 years of my life. I don't feel welcome in the community, so I try to stay away from them, ESPECIALLY other lesbians.

  18. No, sadly, I haven't. I don't think I've met a trans person either - Hopefully, one day I get to meet some! It's nice to know so many different people online, but I would also like to have more variety in real life too! Unfortunately, Louisiana is probably one of those places that wouldn't accept trans or genderqueer people though and they'll have to keep hiding and I won't be able to meet them and help them out and let them know that they are loved :frowning2: But to all the genderqueer and trans people out there, I may not be able to say it in person, but I do love you and always be proud of who you are(*hug*)
