Okay, so I just got into a relationship with a bigender person, they are amazing and fabulous and I really really like them a lot, but I'm not what to call them. Like, I would call them my girlfriend, because they are bio girl, but I don't want to make them feel like I love their guy half any less. So, is there something I can call them that's like gf or bf, but not so gendered? Besides partner, I mean. For one thing we are both seventeen, so saying we have a partner sounds a little weird, and also, I dunno, the word has always felt a little impersonal to me. Thanks!

I should have called this "I'm Dating a Bigender Person" probably would have gotten some discussion and help. I'm a doofus.

Many people call their partner an S.O., which is short for 'significant other,' or lover, which is really intimate, so it's your call. I'd advise against it, though, since you said you just got into the relationship, but hey, if you think you really love them, it's not too bad, right?

If all else fails, just ask them. They shouldn't take offense. After all, they had to tell you that they were bigender, right? If anything, it shows that you care and that you don't want to offend them. That's really sweet.

And, congratulations for getting into a good relationship!

Ask them what pronouns they prefer.

Hmmm, thank you Nychthemeron, that's really wise advice. And thanks for the congrats, though, I don't really deserve it. They're so amazing and I'm just kinda, blah. :/ I don't know how they put up with me.

Aw, come on. Most people feel that way, but their partner (or s.o. ;P) feels the same or thinks you're the best in the world.

I'm sure you're brilliant. Besides, like I said, you cared enough to make an entire new thread just to see what you should call them. That's awesome.

I would ask them what they prefer. I would say significant other as well, since it makes them feel special in your life .
