Will homophobia disappear ?

I don't think it's ever going to "disappear", I mean the fact that we've struggled for so long to gain equality will never disappear either. It's similar to racism. It still exists, but only morons (for lack of a better word) continue stereotyping people based on their color.

 

No. It'll change, everyone will claim to be accepting and to hate homophobia, just like they do racism and sexism, but like racism and sexism, it'll still be there, just harder to see.

 

Completely is unlikely. If one day racism is completely gone then maybe. It will certainly continue to get better though.

 

I don't believe that it's inherent to human society. It's not an act of stupidity, or in Tetra's word, being "moronic." Social discrimination comes with benefits to those who cause it. It's not as if deliberately stratifying power and social value is a stupid or accidental action.

I do believe that can be ended over time, if only it's fought until the very end. But I sense that upon a landmark such as universal marriage equality, it'll be dropped and people will pretend it's non-existent. To steal from and transfer the subject of Martin Luther King jr's ideas, it'll be worse, ignored, and perpetuated by queer people when straight people can pretend it doesn't exist, which we're seeing in some more progressive areas. Ending homophobia means ending every thought, every little action, every subtle indication of heterosexual superiority. And that, I think, will not be achieved even when it's our great-great grandchildren arguing this.

But I believe it well get better over time. Trans rights, however... let's just say that not all cis queer people care about them now, and the vast majority of cis people are definitely transphobic, even if homophobia has decreased. They'll become a separate struggle, I think, in which queer cis people may be very willing to drop trans people from the bargain, as we've done before and continue to do now.

 

Nope, not a chance in this lifetime at least or even the next couple. You might see it shrink in some parts of the world as it becomes more politically useful to do so but overall there is too much money and power involved for it go away completely.

Aussie's right about the intelligence of those involved, you don't just look at the screaming homophobe in the street but you also have to keep an eye on the person who puts one hand on the man's shoulder and whispers what to think and say in his ear then reaches into the man's wallet with the other hand.

 

As long as "heterosexual white male" centeric norms stay, it will stay. Currently most cultures, religions and laws comes from/live by that norm.

Nope, never, as long as there is "hate" in the world, then no.

Also unless "god" shows his face and says "gays & trans are cool, don't diss brah" then yeah. Still not going to happen.

 

First of all I don't think 'homophobia' is even a thing. Its not fear and anxiety that they feel but rather disgust/hatred which is far from a phobia. I don't think 'homophobia' will disappear all over the world unless they changed the scriptures in the bible. Maybe it will be less prevalent in the future but I don't think it will entirely disappear.

 

Eventually. I mean hey, the species won't last forever. No hating when everyone's dead.

I do believe one day there will be no more homophobia and transphobia. I'd imagine homophobia will end before transphobia. But neither will happen overnight. It's just the way of things, to end eventually. We have to carry on fighting, though.

 

Homophobia will disappear when all other sins and wrong-doings disappear...
