Well there's physical maturity which is pubertytastic, but yeah there's also mental maturity. That kind of maturity is just a state of mind, where you know right from wrong, funny from not funny, and yeah you just follow procedure. However i don't think it is a permanent state of mind because anyone who hangs out with a group of friends is almost never mature. Anyone who is mature all the time could never have any friends, unless they hung out with other 100% mature kids, in which case would be REALLY boring.

I consider myself to be quite mature. The word, to me, means that you divorce yourself from childishness, either to a strong degree or entirely. This has resulted in people labeling me as serious or boring before, but those people don't know me, and I don't know them, so the illusion that their opinion matters exists only for them.

I thought I was mature.. until I read that. I laughed out loud. But anyways, mature to me is when Mommy and Daddy don't pay anything for you. You have a steady job, self-sufficient, and level head.

Maturity and independence go hand-in-hand. Unless you are Paris Hilton.

I disagree with some of you. I will write my explanation of "mature" or "maturity"

Maturity has nothing to do with having fun or not, you could be mature and still have a good time, laugh and enjoy your time with people..

many people think being mature is a fixed state, which is not true , it's levels of maturity, and you could never be mature 100% , you always have stuff to learn.

but you might ask, what does learning stuff has to do with maturity? well maturity is the result of life experiences you've had in life, the more you go through in life, the more you'll be more mature ( in those areas) than other people.

so let's say a person got beaten up by his parents while he was a child, this experience will force his brain to evolve more and create solutions for a lot of situations, therefor he will be considered more mature than his "normal" friends whom didn't get beaten up while they were a child.

maturity is more complicated than that... you could see maturity as life-experience knowledge, the more you go through the more you're forced to be more mature in those areas.

sometimes it might cause a problem that the person will be more serious than others because he/she will think that their fellow mates are less mature than them... but with age I think the person will learn eventually how to cope with that, and therefor they will become more mature and be able to be friends with all kind of people.

ok I'm going to stop rambling.

In some ways, I'm dreadfully immature. (See my first post for details.)
    In others, I'm totally mature.

But I don't think I have much "growing up" to do. I can always learn more, and become a better person, but most of my immaturity is by choice.

To me, a mature person would be someone who is able to live in harmony with others.

Unfortunately some people never grow up.

    Same here

Maturity is when you come to realize there are more important things to life than yourself and you have to fit into this big mess somehow. It's also about learning to understand and evaluate non-judgementally.

To me the idea of maturity is when a person can communicate and understand themsleves, their environment and the people around them and the capability to determine appropriate and harmonic behavour - or atleast the ability to tell the difference.

i think its how u deal with situations & respond to things
i can be mature...all depends on the situation
    i can be deadly serious
but then i can go off on one & go crazy
or i can get in a strop & act like a child
