What kind of jewelry would you want to be proposed to with or to propose to another person with? The diamond ring has become traditional in the past century. Would you stick with it or go with another option?

It depends. I'd probably know the person well enough, to seriously propose, so that is going to determine a lot of it. Ideally, though, I'd suggest something a little less extravagant, so that the money that would have gone to a ring, can go towards something else, like the honeymoon or just a get-away trip.

Now, if someone wanted to propose to me, then I'd let them know. I'll be appreciative of whatever you get, but keep it simple. I'm kicking your ass, if you blow thousands of dollars on a gem, when those thousands could have meant the difference between Coach and First Class, a few miles or a few countries, a McDonald's Happy Meal or an elegant meal, LOL!

I don't wear jewellery. I definitely wouldn't want a ring. They're not even practical, anyway.

Yeah I want a diamond ring, but it'd have to be a metal I'm not allergic to, or be coated so it doesn't actually touch my skin.

I definitely don't want a ring. Impractical and easy to lose.

I don't like natural diamonds at all and feel the same about gold, far too many wars and violence are caused by these two materials.

I would like a ring, but I've never really been interested in valuable metals. Gold is boring.
A ring made entirely of agate or jade would be ten times more beautiful than anything made of shiny gold and diamonds.

(my sense of aesthetics has greatly been influenced by In Praise of Shadows by Jun'ichirō Tanazaki)

I have a book of minerals and gems and stuff and honestly a lot of then are, imo, way prettier than diamonds and far more common (thus conflict free). I would pick one probably depending on a lot of what she likes, colors and stone and dumb symbolism and stuff. More meaning than value., Iwouldnt want to be with someone that would be pissed off I couldnt grt them a three month salary blood diamond gold band ring. idk I get really giddy thinking about this because i am a loser and can only ever daydream ):

Diamonds are not only boring; they're also one of the world's most insidious rackets before even considering a conflict-free pedigree. I'd want something much more original.

It doesn't matter, and I'm not sure why it should be. I was proposed to with a simple, nice ring; no stones or anything fancy.

I would stick with the original diamond ring option.

I think opal engagement rings are beautiful (first image) and it is my birthstone. I also like eternity rings (second image).
