Other than religion, what other reasons have people given you for being homophobic?

They think gay sex is gross.

They think that gay love is pointless because a child can't come of it.

They think all gays are super feminine camp queens who run around in pink boas and speedos.

They think we whine a lot about the imbalance of rights.

They think gays are "lazy" and just want to take the easy way out by being with the same sex instead of trying to understand and deal with the opposite sex.

They think it's a phase everyone goes through and grows out of.

They think every gay is a pedo.

Those are all the ones I've heard of. I hate gays because:____________

All stupid reasons, and unfortunately easy to seed into the next generation's mind.

Ignorance. Not meeting any gays and being shielded by that ignorance.

    Ignorance is bliss.

I'd say fear, not just fear of us but fear that the man upstairs will get angry and set fire to things.

For some reason I find this hilarious that all of a sudden across the planet there will be millions of small fires all at the same time where God has woken up and gone "hey what the crap is going on down there i never said you could do that"

Im sure im the only one that finds this funny.

You take one small child who's parents don't know any better, the child grows up in the dark not knowing anything about LGB because its parents didn't. The unconscious message is that LGB is different, something to stay away from, (society is one big pack animal undercurrent, be accepted or be eaten), if the parents are openly anti LGB then they will learn that too. Simple things like not talking about LGB, turning the TV over, not saying anything if homophobia is being expressed, making it a point of silence, all this instils fear, uncertainty, confusion, ignorance. The same as having ginger hair or being overweight at school, people using the term 'gay' as a put down to make people want to avoid being seen in that light. No one wants to be isolated and bullied and people will under the umbrella of fear deny their own truth.

I do believe that things are beginning to change for the better, but it will take generations for the information and the ok ness to find its way through, as soon as it becomes an everyday thing for every person then there is a chance of change.

Secular homophobia is definitely a thing. Trust me, atheism does not cause tolerance.
Blaming all religious people for the actions of some loud-mouthed idiots won't help anyone.
    Anyways...
Reasons besides "Muh Religion!" for homophobia:
    • Stereotypes (flamboyancy, promiscuity, etc.)
    • "I don't get gays."
    • "Ew, fags!"
    • Closeted homosexuality
    • Assuming that we're all liberals while having disdain for liberalism
    • Homophobic views "inherited" like some sort of bizarre family heirloom
      (I.e., being taught homophobia)
    • Deluded yaoi fangirl who hates all gay people that aren't *sparkly bishies* like in her porno doujins
    Et cetera, et cetera.
