I found both this interview and the project interesting.

This project was initiated by Zhana Vrangalova, a human sexuality researcher, did some research on the effect of casual sex on people's well being.

At this studies she found that the effect actually vary: some people benefitted from it, others remain unaffected, while others suffered from it. During her studies she found that most people that benefitted from it usually did it because they where attracted to the other person, felt lust or plain simply wanted to have sex. On the other had people that did it out of peer pressure, as revenge, to make others jealous, to fit in, because they where drunk or because they hoped it to be become more than just casual sex, where the ones who suffered after having casual sex.

here is some interview with her where she talks about it. somewhere in the article there is a link to the pdf of her research:

here is the link ot the casual sex project, where people post their experience with casual sex, and wether the experience was positive, negative or ambivalent.

    Warning: some stories are graphic.
