Do you think gay men should have the equal blood donation rights?

In the UK the laws are very strict on gay men giving blood donations...
Even if they are HIV or not had sex or whatever

Obviously I think we should be tested each time for HIV...

But seeing as people are dying due to the effects of lack of blood donations just because of some aged homophobic views....

Also I believe gay people are very much community people who are usually kind and hiving so maybe more likely to donate blood...

    What do you think?

Seeing as blood is independent of sexuality, it's a hysterical idea for someone not to want it. Do they think it's going to make them gay or something?

They should definitely test for HIV, but not giving gay men equal blood donation rights is absurd. People need good blood, and it's being held back by some homophobes.

It's archaic and offensive. The need to test blood is universal.

Is this even real? Are there rules that restrict gay people from donating? If so it's absurd. Are people really that stupid?:eusa_doh:

Plasma donation centers in US will refuse you if you if you are a man and admit to having sexual contact with a man within a certain time period, can't recall what.

It's obviously because if someone receives gay blood, they'll catch The Gay and wake up in a neon pink tanktop, high on ecstasy and being beset from all sides by strange men. Obviously.

Even in the Netherlands gay and bisexual men (who have had sex with other men) aren't allowed to donate (unless that has changed in the last couple of months), it's ridiculous...

I heard of this the other day, not being able to donate clean healthy blood because of your orientation, It's insulting.

All blood donations are tested. Regulations prohibiting donations from men who have engaged in sexual contact with the same sex were created prior to the time that those tests were actively preformed. They still exist simply because no one has taking the time to change them.

Absolutely moronic. Not letting gays marry is absurdly bigoted, but not letting them save lives?

    This is the truth.

It's like that popular law about a right to shoot Scotsmen in York or whatever that was. Simply an outdated law that has no real effect in the world anyway. Everybody is tested, no matter the orientation, and when you refuse to state your orientation, nothing will happen, because your sample would not be treated any differently if you did state your orientation.

So yeah, it's a useless and stupid law, but I understand why it's still there - there is simply no need to remove it and politicians have bigger issues to deal with.

Ever. Unless it was prior to the introduction of HIV to America. If a woman has sex with a man who has ever had sex with another man, she is not allowed to donate for one year.

Yeah, like doing nothing for 2 years then spending 5 weeks on "vacation" = raising bribes from Billionaires who want something from them, for their next campaign. :tantrum:

I think we're in Narnia. Not too sure.
They don't allow homosexuals to donate blood because if they receive gay blood they'll become homosexuals, lead a sinful life, and run astray from Jesus (sarcasm). I think everyone should have the right to donate blood, and that everyone should get tested for any STD's before they do so.

Maybe they should just test the blood.
