If you were going to buy a new car today, what are you getting?

I currently drive a 2009 Chevrolet Impala and I still kind of miss my Buick that I got when I first got my license. Buick is and always has been marketed as an affordable luxury car, and they're always good for those if us who carry some extra weight. So if cost was a factor, I'd get a Buick Verano (I really like the redesigned Buicks) or if I could afford to pay more, a Regal.

What about you? What are you getting?

Depends. New, like new new? Or new to me, but pre-owned?

Corvette C7. I drive a C6 2011 Corvette now. Really want the C7, but waiting to grab one low mileage, used. It will be my next car, it's just a matter of when. I will probably wait for the third generation, just to make sure all the kinks are worked out.

To keep it realistic: a Peugeot 208. Or, if I had a bit more money, a Renault Clio RS. It's insane, 0-100km/h in just over 6 seconds. In a fucking hatchback. Can someone give me €30k?

    I love small French cars.

    Okay, I'll bite.

If it's just new to me, I would get one of these (don't make me choose, because I can't):
    Mazda RX-7
    Honda NSX-R
BMW M3 (with an inline 6)
    Nissan Skyline GT-R R32
    Chevelle SS
    Camaro SS
    Pontiac GTO

If it has to be new, and if price isn't an issue:
    Audi R8
    Hennessy Venom GT
    Mercedes C63
    Nissan GT-R

If it has to be new, and price is an issue:

    This.

Technically, I think the GT-R would be cheaper than an authentic R-32 given import costs + legalization + vehicle cost. If not cheaper, around the same price. Also a superior performer. Too bad inline 6 M3's are a thing of the past. My E46 was epic, especially with a supercharger.

Not if you have a friend who can get them imported super cheap.

Plus, the pre-owned/not new-new ones, I didn't separate by financial circumstance.

I'm a sucker for the old-school stuff. Even and especially for domestics. Even if the new GT-R can out-perform the R32, I would still like the Skyline.

Haha! Lucky. I have a 350z, and when I see one of the older M3's, I die a little inside.

I hear you. I used to know someone who imported them. I almost decided to get one, but went with the 350z, which in hindsight I deeply regret (I had such a terrible experience). Not only was it a downgrade, but unreliable - with that said, I did have intentions of a twin turbo 850whp kit but I got a lemon and decided to save my money. Was soooo happy when I went back to a E46 engine lol.

Aww, don't say that! I like my Z. :icon_sad: Granted, two weeks after I got her, she got hail damage (like through the car panels) and she decided she was thirsty, and drank some rainwater, got sick and died... So, I haven't had much luck with it, but I still really like it, nonetheless.

I thought about turbocharging it, but with everything that's happened with life in general, just haven't had the extra cash.

I can't say I blame you. There's nothing quite like them. I heard they were going to at least have the option for the straight 6 in the 2014 M3, but I don't know that they ever did. I haven't kept up with much about cars since then, unfortunately. But like I said, I prefer the older stuff. Manual is becoming a thing of the past too, which is so sad, as it's so fun. I guess I was born in the wrong decade. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It wasn't that bad, it ran all the time... It was just everything else, driving without a speedometer (learning to drive on RPM's), never having a sound system that worked, driving in Texas heat with no AC all summer, a stupid humming sound at 80mph where I spent most my time. Not to mention it as the worst freaking resale value for a sports car.

Anyhow, lol. Yeah I hate to burst your happy bubble, but word is the straight 6 is dead in the water. They will most likely be moving to v6 w/forced injection. Yes, you read that right. They are moving to turbocharged v6's as the future standard. On the plus side, they are ditching the extra weight the M3 has gained over the years. So it will become smaller and more agile. This will be good since the 2014 models are still using the v8, and still getting wrecked by my Vette (with better gas mileage to boot).

Also, manual will never go away for the sports car. Sure, paddle shifting auto transmissions will be there because they are insanely fast (especially on any track), but they are a staple of the sports world (also cheaper to maintain).
