    Hey there people.

I was just wondering... (this is open to everyone... but mainly non-Australians) what do you guys think of Australia?

It's always interested me on what other people think, because I feel like Australia must seem like this strange, isolated continent where people ride kangaroos and talk with an extremely twangy accent.

I can assure you that it is (mostly) nothing like that... but I'd still like to know what you think.
    In any way possibly.

And if you have any questions about Australia, feel free to ask... (Hoping if any do arise... Some fellow Australians can come help me answer them...)

    Kael~

Pretty much that like you said, Midnight Oil, and some interesting aborigines. Aussies seem to have a very distinct look to them in their cheek bones. Most are quite attractive. Oh, and it's a good place to be LGBT.

When I think of Australia, I think of: other side of the world, family and heat. Family because a few close relatives of mine emigrated not so many years ago. And heat because I've heard it gets pretty hot in parts!

I think of Crocodile Dundy and Steve Irwin and deserts. I'm horrible, aren't I?

I think of Australia as being the place of magnificent tropics and deserts, rough outdoorsy types, aborigines, and 99,000 species of creatures that can cause you to die in agony. Oh, and spiders big enough to kill with a hunting rifle.

If given the chance I would like to visit someday though. Especially the southeast and Tasmania.

Tony Abbott seems like a fucking idiot from an outside perspective. And the south-east coast seems like the only interesting part, the rest looks super isolated and pretty boring.

It seems hot and sandy  I'm not too sure who Tony Abbott is, or what he's doing, but I've heard he's an idiot :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Funnily enough, Australian wildlife causes extremely few deaths per year. The European honey bee, the European wasp, and the internationally-found box jellyfish are the most dangerous animals in Australia. Wildlife exclusive to Australia is moderately tame compared to those deaths.

As for the deserts, many foreigners forget that we also have quite a bit of snow, though obviously not as much as universally-cold regions.

Our mountain ranges tend to see a lot of snow, and the snow season is rather popular, with a lot of people skiing every year.

As for other things, this is what a typical Canberran park looks like:

And there's also this: this is the sort of environment the majority of Australians live around.

@Aussie, funny how species from Europe tend to endanger indigenous species from there, eh?

Anyway, a few adjectives that come to mind: relaxed, liberal, diverse, proud, and often overlooked. "Tough", too, though I can't say exactly why.

I always assumed the minute I stepped off the plane a giant scorpion would jump onto my face and start stinging, followed by a snake that latched onto my leg, a bird that tries to eat the scorpion but fails and just claws at my head, followed by a kangaroo angry at me for disturbing it's peace with all my screaming that chases me around punching me, then running into a spider web with a 5 foot spider that starts webbing me a necktie... and then, while being punched, scratched, stung, bitten, and spider silked I would fall in a mud pit and be eaten by a crocodile...

    ... Yep.

    (&&&)

Seriously though, I want to go, it's probably no worse than Texas.

That the Australian system of compulsory voting does nothing to advance democracy or good politics. Here's the evidence:

To encounter all those, you'd have to be at least a thousand kilometres apart at the same time.

My impression is that it's hot and has a lot of deadly animals.
I don't like the heat or dying, so it doesn't really appeal to me.

Like every other civilised developed nation. Of course there is the outback and probably some Kangaroos but on the whole a just like Britain with better weather and less people

Good espresso and food. Nice weather. Desert. Wealth. Racism. Poor treatment of aboriginals. Machismo.

Exotic animals, but a very conservative government, that's pretty much destroying the reefs. I get sad, when I think of the rate of wilderness destruction, there, here, and all over the world.

Nice scenery, lovely accents, a hint of exoticism here and there, and how freaking far away it is :frowning2:.
