Mysterious movies that you actually enjoyed without really "getting" them at all

Some of them come to my mind: 2001, the beautiful si-fi masterpiece that didn't even get and I still loved

Post tenebras lux, it's a beautiful piece that has no plot whatsoever and I still liked it, same as Gummo, Inland Empire and Mulholland Dr. I think The Tree of Life is the same, I haven't seen it but I will

Mulholland Dr. has an explanation; it's just not readily apparent at first. Inland Empire I agree about though; that one makes no sense, no matter how you look at it lol

Never seen "Gummo", but I've always been interested.

Yeah... all these movies do have an explanation, you can discuss the meaning of them on IMDB boards but I found that explanations weren't so interesting as the movies themselves so I stopped worrying about it

I don't really care if I "get" a movie or not...

Eraserhead. Also, Triumph of the Will's originally version was entirely cinematography if I recall. No explanations given for all the shiny uniforms and saluting.

Practically all David Lynch's filmography  I'm not a fan of his work but I really like some of his movies, the "normal" ones and the ones you can't really explain

I love David Lynch's work, consider him my absolutely favorite director of all time and my inspiration as he always does what he wants no matter what but I could only make it through Inland Empire once. It could have an explanation and many have posted them online but the length coupled with the use of a handheld camera was way too exhausting and took away one of Lynch's strongest points which is his visual talents and the digital cam just didn't provide what a film camera with a 1.85 or 2.35 aspect ratio can do.

I'd say another great film that cannot be fully explained is Bogart's version of The Big Sleep. You can get a general idea of what's going on but the whole picture of who killed who is never fully revealed and Raymond Chandler, the author of the book, never fully knew himself. Still one of the best examples of Film Noir due to it's rain-drizzled '40's L.A. atmosphere and Bogie & Bacall's hardboiled chemistry.

My favorite movie of all time is Inception. Though I have a lot of theories for that one so I can't say I don't entirely get it. My favorite thing about it is that I've seen it about six times now and I notice new things every time.

2001 made rather little sense but was really good. However, if you read the book, you were able to understand pretty much all of it.

The book version of 2001: A Space Odyssey actually explains a lot of stuff while still being mysterious and intriguing. I highly recommend it.

Yes, it's a good movie but you need to have read the book to "get" it.

Primer was confusing, I need to watch it again to remember and then understand it, but was still good the first time.

I watched Inception on my flight to Italy. I want them to make an Inception 2 so that way it can be explained better :S.
