Hurricanes with female names have killed more people. But why? - Vox I found this article to be really interesting. When you stop and think about it, it does make sense. Anyway, enjoy.
Very interesting! I guess there's a case for naming them all with male names (probably easier than changing the assumptions that lie behind people's under-estimation of female-named hurricanes).
You have to realize too, that before 1979, all hurricane names were feminine names. So 1969, you might have had Alicia, Bonnie, Camille, Donna, and Ellen. No alternating boy-girl-boy-girl. And Hurricane Donna in 1960, Hurricane Camille in 1969, Hurricane Hazel in 1954, Hurricane Audrey in 1957, Hurricane Betsy in 1965, and Hurricane Carla in 1961 all caused a huge amount of damage.
