I hope that anyone in the Houston and Galveston Texas area get out of harms way. If the authorities told you guys to leave then LEAVE! My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. Be Safe! (*hug*)
Very true. Please get out of the hurricane's way. There's no use trying to battle it and stay put in the area. Hope everyone is safe.
Yeah, I've been watching CNN most of the day. My son is supposed to get an 8 to 10 foot storm surge in Lake Charles, LA. The casino he works at sits on the lake which could put him out of work. Its very frightening for alot of people!
...L'Auberge du Lac? The eye is supposed to go through where I live (I'm at boarding school right now), so I hope all my friends and family are okay...
That's the one! I'll keep your family and friends in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they have all evacuated by now.
Just heard on the news that officials in some areas warned that if some people stay in Galveston they are almost certainly die. There may be 100,000 homes that may be flooded.
Nope, almost everyone I know has stayed put, including my family. Only about 200,000 people evacuated because Houston officials told people to hunker down to avoid a Rita-like evacuation. Pretty much only low-lying counties and coastal areas evacuated. I'm going to call them in a bit to see how they're doing.
ah wow lol i live in austin and they released school early today because they're using my high school as a shelter it's exciting but yeah its bad cause of the death and destruction but still
Well, its the morning after Hurricane Ike. I talked with my son this morning and he said it was a rough night in Lake Charles and they were only getting Tropical Storm/Hurricane Category 1 force winds. (70 miles per hour) The surge raised the water in Lake Charles at least 10 feet so its now flooding alot of the downtown area. My boys live about a mile from that. They still have their power so they are happy about that.
I hope everyone in the vicinity of the storm is ok. I've been hearing a lot about it on tv lately. Is it just me, or does this happen every year? Like, you think people would notice that there are hurricanes every year (during hurricane season nonetheless), and prepare accordingly. Yet there are still deaths and millions (billions?) of dollars of damage each year. And this has been going on since like, the beginning of America. Just a thought.
That's great Becky! I heard a little while ago that the flooding in Lake Charles was almost as bad or not worse than hurricane Rita or Katrina. Having power on is a plus.
