Have homophobes come here before to type incredibly stupid stuff?

I've often wondered the same thing but I've been here since February of 2013 and I have seen nothing of the sort.

 

Yes, homophobic people have done so, but the stupidity and offensiveness of the things they post pale in comparison to the stupid, offensive things our own members post about fat people, non-white people, bisexuals, and transgender people.

 

I've seen one in my time here, and I'm sure there's been tonnes more, as I'm not incredibly active on the forum. They were more parts troll than homophobe though, imo.

 

I've seen it before, but maybe not to a high extent. I wasn't here long enough to see anything about gay men, but I remember that thread about some troll asking why lesbians are lesbian if they use dildo because It's the same as a penis and all that crap. Actually, I'm sure Pret_Allez remembers that because they PMed me about it and we got it taken down. Sigh

 

That was an EC member, and that's exactly what I'm talking about when I say that the homophobic trolls who come here are way, way less offensive overall than our own members who are verbally abusive. And it's part of why I have serious misgivings about the "anonymous discussions" subforum. It seems to be the "come here to express your bigotry in a cowardly way" subforum.

I think I know what you are getting at - that, as a minority group who are often subject to prejudice and discrimination ourselves, one would think we 'should know better' than to indulge in any lingering prejudices of our own, since we know first hand what it's like being on the receiving end of it. This takes self-examination, effort, and most of all, knowledge, because I think most prejudice is based on ignorance, is it not?

Wow....I didn't realize. That's terrible. EC members really do abuse that section, don't they? :/ It shouldn't be used to spread hate...

 

I think mods or admin can check who is posting what if people post offensive things.

 

I don't really run in to anything but internalized homophobia on this site.

In a side note, I'm so glad that I evolved in to a person capable of realizing science is a real thing. I'm a theist but it's hard for me to view thinking the world was created in seven days as anything but ignorance. Just because evolution happened doesn't mean God doesn't exist, I've never seen the big deal.

 

I don't remember any straight homophobes being here, but I've seen a lot of ignorant crap from other EC members at times.

 

I think I remember something like that. By the same line of faulty reasoning you could ask why a gay man would ever penetrate another man, because that's the same as a vagina.

 

Atheism vs theism is a position on a question "is there a god?". Being gay is an identity. It's not really a subject both sides really want to debate.

 

A few absolute troll members have said terrible things; they get banned quickly. I remember reporting a homophobic troll and they got banned literally minutes into their membership.

The far more worrying stuff comes from members who are here on a long-term basis, saying misogynistic, homophobic, racist, and on one occasion I've even come across literally genocidal views.

And don't get me started on the transphobia which come out here.

 

They just did.

 

That got taken care of fast EC have tight security.

 

The thread that got closed down a few minutes ago is proof that some brainless cretins do occasionally spew chunks of stupid, inane babble over these forums.

The thing to remember is that these Grade A village idiots are wasting their precious time by doing this, while we get a quick laugh and then move on to the next thread.

 

I got a chance to make a "over 9000" joke.
It was worth it.
