What does it mean when people say "I have no problem with gay people, but I don't support it". Is it just another way of saying "Hate the sin, not the sinner"?

It's a complete contradiction. You can't be ok with something and not support it. My stepmom said the same thing with me. She told me she doesn't support the "lifestyle", but she had no problems with gay people. It's fucking stupid. It is basically another way of saying "hate the sin, not the sinner". You're right.

It is essentially the Catholic position, I. E. Confusing as all hell.
You can't not support something that is OK, like how you can't say you are OK with something but you can't do it. It doesn't make sense

Well, there's a big difference between tolerating and supporting...

In my experience it usually means they're homophobic but they want to seem like they aren't
