So out of curiosity I was wondering what people's religious beliefs are on here. The LGBT community has one of the highest percentages of non-religious people (no surprise considering some religious people's animosity towards gays and trans people), and I just want to see if the community on here reflects that overall percentage. I personally myself am not religious, but it is for reasons completely unrelated to LGBT issues, so feel free to talk about your religious beliefs, or lack thereof, in the thread (there's no reason to be ashamed about your beliefs, I never understood why things like religion and politics must be so touchy) and if you want to talk about how being LGBT has affected your beliefs if at all. Thanks!

I am also non-religious for reasons other than LGBT+ issues, and I usually feel frustrated when people use their religious beliefs to back up a debate, but I'll have to work on that.

I'm more of a science guy, but I definitely believe that religion and science can co-exist, and I try to be as respectful to others' beliefs as much as I can. Except, of course, if it's offensive.

I believe in the abrahamic god but don't particularly follow any organized church. If I did, I would be episcopalian

    Theological non-cognitivist with pantheistic leanings.

Which in your poll is hard to differentiate between spiritual unaffiliated and secular unaffiliated.

I have always had such irreligious notions, even before I could conceptualize them fully. My realizing I had a queer sexuality had no part in it.

I'm not agnostic because I'm gay. But I don't think that changes much either way.

^This. But I do feel that a lot of people feel betrayed by God for some Christians' animosity.

Atheist, but not because I'm queer. I've been atheist since I was 15 (before I knew I was gay).

I am apathetic to theological discourse for the reason that nobody knows what the fuck they are actually talking about.
Prefer philosophical systems that actually start out somewhere semi-rational.

I was a bit confused on what to vote for considering my church describes itself as "Catholic, yet protestant" but decided because it's a reformed and LGBTQ friendly church it counts as protestant.

I'm honestly still trying to figure it out. I would say it's either spiritual, or something of the lines of I believe in god, but no religion.

I am a christian but I don't believe in organized religion. Organized religion is what caused the myth that homosexuality is a sin. It is sad that most christian churches deny that the bible was written in English and that in the original language there was no condemnation of homosexuality and there were also gay relationships in the bible. I know that are a lot of churches are evolving on the issue and that is great but I think church turns more people away from God and that churches rather brainwash people into their ways than help them discover their own gospel truth which is why i left church all together. My relationship with God has been better because of that decision.

My atheism is simply how I was born. ( I assume that everyone is born atheist.. I can't imagine anyone emerges from the womb complete with a religion already preprogrammed).

However, unlike so many other people, I never saw any reason to take up a religion. To be honest, I am completely mystified as to how and why people decide to become religious, it is something no one has ever been able to explain to me.

I suppose that my sexuality may have been a factor in my never having acquired a religion, but if so, I would think it was a minor one. Even as a small child, long before I knew what sexuality was, religion was simply never an option for me. I just found the whole idea quite strange ( and to this day I still tend to regard people who say they believe in a religion as a bit eccentric).

If anyone feels up to the job of explaining to me how and why they decided to acquire a religion I would be really interested in your explanation. It's something I am curious about , but it generally seems to be considered impolite to just come right out and ask.

Because of lack of evidence though, not because I'm LGBT.
Have never been a theist of any kind.

    Seconded.
Although I can understand why some people become religious.

I've been an Atheist since I was about 5, before then I was ridiculously indoctrinated by my school and looking back, that scares me. I'm a Secular Humanist as well, so morals are off to the side...

Agnostic I guess, simply neither believe or disbelieve.
