I've seen this topic come up a lot in the trans community. Curious to see your opinions.

When I said gender, I of course mean the gender you identify as.

So trans girls, would you date a girl who is straight, or even a guy who is gay?

Trans guys, would you date a guy who is straight or a girl who is lesbian?

I know this is a ridiculous question, but I've seen it mentioned before.

Personally, I wouldn't. If I am out to this person, they know I'm a guy. If they date me only because I have girl's parts, failing to see or accept that I'm a guy, it's degrading to my gender identity, implying that I'm not a man, just a masculine girl.

I don't want to be presented as their "girlfriend". If you are in a relationship with me, I am your boyfriend and you are in a gay relationship.

I voted maybe... I'm woman-identified, and so far, the results have been iffy. Getting misgendered at least once a week.

I would so long as they saw me as an exception to their straightness. If they were dating me because they think I'm really a man, I wouldn't want to date them.

I'm not trans, but I share your sentiments here; I find it weird when cis people date trans people of the genitals they like because it doesn't match their identity. I'd never date a trans man for that reason.

Nope. Wouldn't date a straight guy. I'm sorry but then all I feel they'd want me for is my parts and being pre-everything. Nor a lesbian. Just feels invalidating.

No for reasons Byron said. It feels too invalidating.

If the person seemed interested not just sexually and also used the right pronouns then yes I would. If the person thought of me as male then I wouldn't.

Not really. Only if I felt particularly strongly for them, and it was an exception deal, rather than them just not thinking I'm a 'real' man.

No, it would feel like they didn't really see me as male

I have once. I might again, but it depends on how willing they'd be to admit that they're half of a gay relationship. If they can't admit that, then there's no point in carrying on, because they're not acknowledging me for who I am. Acknowledging that I'm more than my parts is imperative towards forming a relationship with me in the first place.

I wouldn't want to mislead anybody. And if they'd prefer to be with a girl, then they have every right to go find a girl they like, because I'm not a girl, and I can't be one for anyone, end of discussion. Wouldn't bother me, honestly.

No. I'm not a female. If I did that it would be like sweeping my identity underneath the rug. I really would hate to have to live the lie of being cis. It probably wouldn't be taken seriously and as soon as my body started to change, the love might not still be there.
