Some people compare being gay to being an addict, or an alcoholic. They argue that it's something that you can "control" with help.

Do you think that being gay is in anyway similar to being an addict/alcoholic?

    I'm addicted to love.
    Also to breathing.
Something normal that you do, that is hard to stop, is not necessarily an addiction.

You know how when someone makes a corny joke and you do that little fake laugh thing?

(Expect when Kaiser does it. We laugh our asses off for those. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

I love being gay and I'd hate to not be, but it's not something I or anyone else has any control over. It's biological, not mental.

No, and I would hate to live in the mind of someone who thought that way. I feel very sad for them.

Addiction is characterized as a habitual compulsion towards rewarding behavior. All sexual desire is technically a form of addiction.

My addiction just happens to be towards the more phallic members of society...

Should have added to my reply: It's hard for me to understand how my sexuality is an addiction, because if living a life had a sexuality, I'd probably be read as asexual. I'm single and celibate by choice and I rarely feel attracted to anyone, probably because I'm shallow as hell and easily turned-off

Funny nobody asks if being straight an addiction.

Is having sexual impulses *at all* an addiction?

    Is breathing oxygen an addiction?

    Is drinking water an addiction?

I believe every therapeutic model that has tried to "help" homosexuals become "non-practicing" has been shown to fail.

Homosexuality is only viewed as an addiction because certain people find it icky. We don't consider food, air, and water addictions, because these things don't gross anyone out and they don't hurt anyone. We consider heroin an addiction, because of the way it destroys individuals. The only thing that hurts homosexuals about homosexuality is the friggin' homophobia that certain elements in our society want to propagate.

You'd think that on a dangerously overpopulated planet, people would embrace the notion that certain people aren't basing their relationships around creating children. But no...they have to judge their sexual practices. Lordy, how selfish and short-sighted we are.

It's an addiction the same way having green eyes or having cells undergo osmosis is an addiction.
