Curious; How many gays ARE masculine?

Discussion in 'Chit Chat' started by PrinceFabulous, Sep 20, 2014.

  1. I dunno, I'm just curious. Thinking about it makes me wonder because there seems to be a lot of Fem-Gays, so I'm just wondering, if you had to estimate, what percent of gay guys are masc-gays?

    Define "masculine"

  3. According to my dictionary...

"having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with men, especially strength and aggressiveness"

In that case, probably about the same percentage as straight and bi men.

I don't really consider myself masculine, but I'm relatively far from feminine. I'm comfortably in the middle somewhere.

But to answer the question, I'd say somewhere along the lines of 50/50, maybe 55/45 leaning toward fem, but y'know, stereotypes aren't accurate.

I'm not particularly athletic or aggressive, so I guess I'm not.

This makes me realise two things...

    A) I'm not very masculine
    B) I chose the wrong option in a poll a few days ago.

^Same. I am not very masculine. Not aggressive, not very strong, somewhat "submissive", etc.

Based on the gay guys I have known personally, I'd say 95% are fem.

Based on the ones I've met online, I'd say 65-70%. But in my experiences, it's always been a majority. Not to disappoint...

I'm with Quem and Mintberry, I don't have those qualities, or at least not that prominent.

From what I see there is a very close number. Obviously fem will be more visible because we can recognize them by stereotype but that doesn't mean they are more of them. I've read a lot here that straight looking gay men are more in numbers than fem gay men. If you think about it, unless they have a banner saying "I'm gay", we won't really notice the difference between masculine gay men and masculine straight men.

Yeah, but quite frankly not many straight or bi guys are "strong, athletic, and aggressive" either.

So if we're using that definition, I'd say gay men don't stray too far from straight or bi men.

Tends to be easier to pick feminine men out of a crowd.

I guess so but generally speaking I don't know any publicly open gay that are masculine while there are lots of feminine ones. My guess is masculine gays keep their orientation more to themselves :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Nearly everyone I know, knows I'm gay - I don't hide it much or at all, although I don't exactly where brightly colored Pride wear either (I don't wear brightly colored anything really - the parrot would kill me).

When people want furniture moved, I usually get called. I did martial arts for a time in college and could theoretically cripple or kill someone if I really wanted to.

I'm told I sometimes come across as threatening and that my management style could be characterized as 'do it my way or I'll kill you'.

I like rock and metal music primarily.

I have helped skin and butcher various animals early on in my life. Didn't bother me a bit, especially because I knew how tasty they would be when properly cooked.

I once had a straight friend who's active duty Army tell me I should join up as I'd fit right in.

Then again - I couldn't care less about sports, cars, or shooting things (well, ok - sometimes the shooting things bit sounds mildly interesting). I also like some Lady Gaga, some Broadway musicals and soundtracks, and some classical. Can't stand opera.

So, where does that put me on the masculine/feminine scale?

The strength part interests me. We often think of strength in terms of appearance (physique), but I'm also interested in emotional strength. If we choose to include emotional characteristics in our definition of strength, then gay men have it in abundance. Not only do we have it, but it's often put to the test in a big way.

Feminine gay men may lack the outward appearance of masculinity, but in many cases there is one hell of a man within. Yes, they have balls!

Never underestimate the strength of a gay man.
