As you've probably guessed from the title of this thread I need some advice on dyeing my hair. The real issue is just what color will suit me and how should I have it dyed? I currently have dark brown hair and light brown skin and I'm not sure which color will suit my complexion. Furthermore, I'm torn between completely dyeing my hair or having some kind of streak of color or fading effect?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated,

    Thank you.

Hm. I'd have to see a picture to know really. But you said you have light brown skin, so not really sure if that means just slightly tan or what. but generally deeper reds (carmine to even purple) seem to go with browner skin. as for full or just a streak thats really up to you. I think both look cool on most people . hope this helps, good luck!

Depends on how long your hair is. Obviously streaks and fading is good, on really longish hair, like... check my profile. But they should be really contrasty. Like... go for red or white... Whatever you do, never dye your hair towards blond-ish. It looks really ugly on brown hair.

If you have short hair, i'd leave it as it is, no point in dyeing short hair, just damages it.

Streaks are usually a better choice because you generally don't want to change your whole look (looks unnatural) but rather, accent on it. Like, an accessory but, it's your hair. Just don't go overboard with it. You want to attract people's attention, so you should also consider placement, which is your better side?

What are you talking about? I wish I had dark hair so I could bleach it and mayve add some faded lilac to it. Dark roots with platina-blonde hair is seriously hot. It does depend on the person wearing it though.

I'd say ask an experienced barber about it. They'd know best what fits you, your hair type and hair colour.

For those who are thinking of dying their hair "unnatural" colors--

    1. Talk to a hair care specialist about the type/kind of dye you will need to use. Some dye's wash out quickly on some types of hair. You can also ask what colors would work for you and your hair type.

    2. Find a hairstyle you like, that would work with the new color on you.

    3. TEST colors first! There are wash-in/wash-out hair colors you can use, so you don't waste your money on dying your hair and then end up hating it. There are comb in colors that will wash out, there are colored sprays you can use for your head or just to streak some parts, and there are colored rinses that are not bold colors, but give colored highlights to your hair. This is great if you want to try a different color everyday for a week. Actually a lot of goth and emo types use these wash out colors, just so they CAN have a different color every day.

    4. After testing, figure out what color will work best for you, if you want permanent dye in your hair.

    5. If you are doing it yourself, make sure you fully understand how to use the chemicals and how to use it correctly. If you are going to a salon, you need to make sure they understand HOW LONG you want this color in your hair. The longer you want it in your hair, the longer you may have to sit with the chemicals in your hair, or they may have to do more than one treatment.

    6. Find out what after conditioners will work on your hair and color, to best keep it from fading too quickly.

    7. If you have a job, make sure your employer is acceptable to this before you do anything. A lot of employers have rules against "unnatural" color hair.

Well, I think that, since you have light brown skin, you might want to try raven black. The combination just seems mesmerizing to me.

I've been told that if your complexion is warm, that your hair should be a warm color and vice-versa. A light blue, like aquamarine might work. Lime green. Purple. Orange, Red and maybe, blue-black.
