Note: This is not a thread about whether or not god exists. If you answer with a statement of faith or the lack of it, I'll be forced to think that you can't read.

If a god did exist, would this being be worthy of our love and worship?

For this purpose, the god would be omniscient and omnipotent.

No. If this god is omniscient and omnipotent then they would be a) empathetic towards humanity and b) have the power to help humanity. Such a being would be capable of helping all life on existence and still have pretty much infinite time for themself and as such if they didn't use their power, they would be being selfish. It's the same as criticising a person who has billions but does donate money to charity, they have more than enough for themselves, so they should help others.

Also, I believe that nothing should be worshiped as that suggests that one is lower than the other when we should all be treated in the same manner, regardless of how much infinite power or knowledge we have.

I don't see how a) follows. God could easily be a psychopath, incapable of empathy.

Well Odin and the honorable dead did kill all the evil ice giants so....

On a more serious note I havent got a clue, I spose it would depend on wether or not he/she/they/it meant some of the more evil shit that is written in some of the scriptures people claim he/she/they/it had a part in writing. (Its not all shit, just some of it!)

No. At the very best he is a bystander to evil when he is able to stop it. At the worst he causes and does evil. So the only thing that we'd be worshipping him for is creating us. I don't worship my parents for creating me, why would I worship a God for doing the same?

It's impossible. To be incapable of empathy is to be incapable of understanding what someone else is going through. A being which knows everything knows exactly what everyone is thinking and knows exactly how they would feel if said things were affecting them and is such empathetic

The Christian concept of God and evil ( no, not good ) leaves God on the sidelines when it does concern evil. This is their idea of free will . When Satan was cast down or out or sideways, humans (man) was given the choice by virtue of baptism to choose either route.

Yes, but it still doesn't mean god gives a fuck about suffering.

Exactly my point, if they're empathetic but don't give a fuck about suffering (despite having the power to fix it) then they doesn't deserve worship

Oh of course. Anyway, as you say, I don't think anything, or anyone, no matter how powerful or benevolent, is worthy of worship. God would be deserving of no more rights than any of us humans.

When we warship kings due to their great wealth and power what are we rewarded with?

What, if anything, has the god in question done to deserve our love and worship? What, if anything, has the god done to earn our scorn and hate?

Mere power and knowledge aren't sufficient, in and off themselves, to earn worship, although they probably are sufficient to earn respect of the kind you give to a bear or lion or hurricane or whatever else has the power to kill you.

Not really God has to prove their love first .
