Which US State will be LAST to allow SSM?

    3 years ago when I travelled to Iowa to marry my wonderful husband, there were only a few states that allowed SSM. As of today there are officially 25, and that number will probably be 30 soon. A year ago I would have told you my state of Wyoming would definitely be among the last to legalize SSM, but events put in motion by yesterday's decision not to take any SSM cases by the US Supreme Court, make me believe WY will see marriage equality very soon. At the pace we are going I would be very surprised if you were unable have a SSM in any state or territory of the USA within the next 3-5 years.

    That brings me to the question, which state will be last? Texas? Georgia? Alabama? What do you think?

    Somewhere in the 5th (TX, LA, MS) or 11th (AL, GA, FL--but probably not FL) circuit courts of appeal. Those states and courts are the most conservative, and there's been the least progress in getting cases there from lower courts.

    Probably Mississippi. A lot of people in that state would put up "Whites Only" signs on everything if the federal government didn't force integration back in the day.

    Mississippi I think. Though it might be a close call with Louisiana and Texas (and Alabama too perhaps).

    Texas is a monster of its own, and thus I wouldn't place it as dead last.

    I would guess Tennessee or one of the Carolinas. Probably South Carolina. Georgia also comes to mind.

    I think, like SemiCharmedLife mentioned, it will be the members under the 5th Circuit who will fall in one fell swoop. All the other states might end up having the Courts of Appeals, either by a panel of 3 judges or en banc, rule SSM bans unconstitutional. I suspect the 5th Circuit will be the exception.

    That said, we could have an event like Loving where several states across the Nation had their antimiscegenation laws struck down. Maybe the whole Midwest and South falls together.

    Mississippi or Alabama, they both have been traditionally uber conservative. I'd say Texas, but Texas more pockets of liberal areas.

    Honestly I don't see any southern states ever legalizing it at least not in this life. But Arizona will probably legalize it soon as I've seen a lot going on about it on the news hope it gets legalized soon.

    "Which US State" was the question.

    No doubt in my mind it'll be a southern one. The people here are near impossible to change.
