I came out for the first time 7 months after I realised I was gay. Anything more than that would have made me spontaneously combust, creating a serious fire hazard.

Probably about a month in I confided in a close online/long distance friend that I was questioning my sexuality. I was melting down and needed an ear, and hadn't found this place yet, either. I came out to my first local/real life friend maybe 5 or 6 months after that. Currently, I'm still slowly working my way out of this dark and cramped little box.

I should say, though, that this does not count the years in between moments or months where I had a "realization" that I later seriously suppressed.

6 years. Too long. Probably for the best though.

(Not really but that's what I tell myself)

    Like a month.

But I also realized I'd been questioning for roughly 1 zillion years.

It's been a bit over 2 years now and I have absolutely no intentions on doing it anytime soon.

I came out to my friends while I was still questioning. I couldn't deal with the confusion. Personally, I'd recommend coming out when you're sure because, based on my personal experience, a lot of people will think it's a phase and won't take you seriously,

If you count the guy I'd just had sex with, maybe 5-10 minutes (I literally told him I'd concluded I was gay as he was driving me back home - prior to that my thinking was that I was experimenting and figuring things out). From there, I started coming out to friends and family over the next couple of weeks. Covering everyone in my circle of friends/family at the time probably stretched out over 3-6 months (I don't honestly remember anymore).
