Default First Presidential Debate

I wanted to tell everyone that the first presidential debate is being held tonight between Obama and McCain. It starts in about 2 hours 20 mins and I'm sure all major broadcasting corporations will be airing it.

It just finished, and neither one of them did spectacularly well - Obama kept interrupting McCain to say he was wrong, McCain completely ignored the moderator and stretched way over his two-minute limit on more than one occasion, and they both failed to turn away from the camera and look at each other. McCain peeked his head up a few times, Obama turned to throw a sentence or two McCain's way, but they were arguing more with the moderator and his rules than with each other. Frankly, I'm more interested in how Palin is going to handle the camera next Thursday than I am about this debate.

I saw quite a bit of it while I was buzzing around working.

They both seems to have their stumbles and their 'scoring' moments, but over all it seemed fairly even.

The concensus of the analysts they spoke to on Australian TV was that McCain had the edge on the foreign policy items, while on the economic issues Obama came off best.

One analyst said that for Obama to come out even, when it was essentially (supposed to be) a foreign policy debate was actually a win for him, given that was the area seen as his weakness.

The other made a point that, heading into the election, the major issue for most Americans was the economic meltdown, more so than those with a military/foreign policy implications. In terms of the election - he saw this as an advantage to Obama.

I already said somewhere else, tho' I know almost nothing about Biden and only a little more of Palin (more reporting of her here + I have watched interview excerpts on YouTube) the VP debate will be interesting if only to see if she still comes across as scarily out of her depth as from my initial impressions.

This is what I'm really looking forward to - if Palin will melt under the spotlight like she's started to do in her interviews, if she'll dodge the question and sound like she's reading from a Wikipedia article, or if she'll brag about how she did win Miss Congeniality.
