It looks stupid and hurt my eyes. Whatta an ugly color that is.

I've never seen a tree but seen many plugs shaped like that thing.

Also checked the statue mentioned in the news. Call me skeptic but I can't believe those things aren't unintentional.

Personally, I don't see it as an X-Mas tree. It looks very odd.

Honestly, it does look like a plug. I'd be offended too; But I wouldn't equate it to homosexuality.

It looks nothing like a tree. Only an artist could call it a tree. hahaha.

Keeping in mind, what other stuff manages to pass as art these days. This "tree" is quite plain, in a way. Don't see why people would take it as offensive, when instead it should be taken as something to be ridiculed, together with the idiot who thought that this was "art".

It looks ridiculous and looks nothing like a Christmas Tree (not that there should be any Christmas trees in October anyway).

If I lived in Paris I would be annoyed that my tax was spent on that stupid object.

This has nothing to do with homosexuality, and yet again that silly site Pinknews is claiming that it is gay related and that anyone who complains about this tree is 'homophobic' or 'far right'. What a pathetic bigoted site, straight people use butt plugs as well as gay people.

I should ask my mom if it looks like a tree. She's the most naive and I innocent one .

I have to say that it does look like a sex toy, and I don't even watch porn that uses toys .

Background is key here. Check out this other work of "modern art" the artist has done. He seems to have a phallic obsession.

MoMA | The Collection | Paul McCarthy. Penis Hat. (2001)

This guy has sex on his mind a lot.

Yep, it for sure resembles a butt plug. But trees should not be inflatable; I mean I don't think anyone could even do a good job designing an inflatable tree. I don't think it would work... And I do not see why this is equated with gay AND I don't see why it is offensive. Tacky and extremely tasteless; yes. But offensive? Probably not. And I agree; it's crazy to have a tree up in October anyway.

Yes! Indeed, how is it that these right-wing-nuts see a butt-plug anyway? How do they know of such things...hmmm?

It's a perfectly acceptable tree for either LEGOLAND or Minecraft...

I think the artist was well aware of what he was producing and the reaction it would provoke. And no, I don't think he has designed a tree!

I'd be pretty pissed if I was Parisian too. I detest "art" like this from egotistical w:***:ers merely trying to shock people for the sake of shocking people. What grand message could you possibly infer from a giant green sculpture of a butt plug? That people prefer not to have giant sex toys littered around the streets (and prime tourist areas nonetheless)? I could tell you that for free without having to spend thousands manufacturing a giant rabbit vibrator to place in Trafalgar square or gargantuan anal beads to loop around the Empire State building. IMO decent artists don't have to rely on gimmicks or outrage, the quality of their art speaks for itself.

While I don't think of the Christmas Butt Plug as a great work of art, the same reaction you have to this is what Madame Bovary and the Rites of Spring were met with.

Shock value was extremely important to the point they made, even if the shock is no longer there for most modern audiences.
