I drive a 6 spd manual. Only trans I would ever want. Except in traffic.

I don't really care if it's manual or automatic, but I will admit that I have more fun driving manual transmission cars. Unless I'm in a traffic jam.

I don't know how to drive a stick, and I'd be perfectly happy only driving automatics.

I only know how to drive an automatic... I really want to learn to drive a manual though.

Pretty much everyone in the UK who can drive can (bar a small number who find it too difficult, or drive adapted vehicles due to disabillity), so yes!

Automatics feel way too much like oversized go-karts to me. I find it a bit disconcerting with how little skill or awareness they need to be driven. I feel manual cars force the driver to be a bit more aware of the vehicle. For example I feel they better reinforce a perception of current speed as the driver will know at all times what gear they are in and be way more accustomed to listening to the engine and revs (automatic drivers simply don't have to think about the engine, just put their foot down and go). Its an added weapon in the armory to enable safe driving.

I only drive manuals, mostly as my family only has manuals. Don't think I will ever drive an automatic ever

Yeah, everyone learns to drive on them here. Automatics are rare.

I'm learning to drive with a manual, which as others have said, is the norm in the UK. I wouldn't switch to automatic - it might be easier, but most cars here are manual so you'd be restricted if you were only able to drive automatics.

I can and do drive a manual, but I prefer automatics. In all honesty, I find the constant changing up and down through the gears in a manual rather tedious.

I drive a manual. I really started learning how to drive manual with 18 wheeler trucks, so every once in a while I have to remind myself not to double clutch. Lol

I can drive both, but the latest 7,8, & 9 speed automatics with paddle shifters and locking torque converters are, for most purposes other than icy roads, the best of both worlds.

I can drive a manual, but I much prefer automatics. I can't see myself ever owning a manual. About the only time I may use the skill is if I had to rent a car in Europe, where as others have pointed out, manuals are very much the norm.

I can drive manual, and prefer it. I wouldn't get a car with an auto unless it was my only choice. Although I will admit it can be a little much in traffic if you are trying to do something else like eat a sandwich (I got stuck in traffic and it took me an hour to eat a sandwich because I had to keep putting it down).

I tried learning from cousins in India, but it was tough. I like automatics because that's one less thing my mind doesn't have to overanalyze.

LMAO at josh9623! Yessssss! And those hills! Mah gawd! But I LOVE my manual trans! I have had two Mitsubishi Eclipses because they look divine and are affordable. They don't make them anymore. :frowning2: Don't know what I will get next. The one I have now has 213,000 miles! The last one went to 260,000.

Resu I was TERRIFIED learning at first. My low key best friend in high school (gay in fact, lol) taught me. I was still pretty scared until years later in grad school I had to get a used car fast cause mine died. The best price they had was for a Mazda GLC (this is how old I am, oy!) But after trying to drive that souped up Capri II I learned on, the Mazda was a breeze. I've not had an automatic since.

There is a certain cache, too, in the south for a girl that attempts a manual. I know, sexist, right? But I do love seeing the car salesman's face when he condescendingly asks if I can indeed use a shift. Doofus! Lol!

I drove a Honda Accord '93, which was manual. I enjoy manual transmission vehicles and find them more interesting.
