An article about why gay people having fun in the same way straight people are should be stopped because it's bad for PR? No thanks.
I don't see how apps are any different from bath houses, which I've heard are dying out, since youth view them as these seedy and antiquated places where old, fat pervs hang out. Still, people would argue that bath houses, like gay clubs and bars, have played a huge role in LGBT culture and history. Technology only makes it easier for people to do what they want.
This article is catastrophically stupid and malicious. And no, this perfunctory sentence isn't nearly good enough to save it: "We need college-aged LGBT to actively work their state’s capitals for gay marriage, harassment laws, and transgender equality."
I mean, the idea that people shouldn't be using apps to get sex because that perpetuates bad stereotypes among cisgender heterosexuals with poor inductive reasoning skills. Are you kidding me? It's precisely because it's so hard to figure out who is gay and out that we have resorted to technology to find each other. Previous generations had sex in the back of semi-tractor trailers. The sky didn't fall down.
The article is a very narrow minded view of all apps in general. There are pitfalls, there are benefits, it's all in the eye of the beholder and those that use them.
