So, I'm reading a book by Hemingway called "The Nick Adams Stories". I'm about 70 pages in and I'm loving it so far!! (I only got it yesterday afternoon). I want to get to know more about it so I took a little romp through the university library and found a book about the character Nick Adams called "Hemingway's Nick Adams"... I about made a mess in my pants when I found that book because I was looking for that exact thing!
Anywho, I was wondering if any of you guys go out and find essays or books about a novel you're reading before/during/after you read it.

Never done that. I have specifically gotten the annotated versions of books (Sherlock Holmes is a great one) so I can find out more about the stuff referenced as I read.

I did that once. I was kinda disappointed by the other author's works. There was a reason we were only required to read the one in school.
