Has anyone experienced outright homophobia in their lives? I did when I was much younger (actually was outted, but went back into a self-imposed closet, now starting to come out again), but not lately.

    Never, really.

The fact that I don't fit standard stereotypes could also shield me from some people's discrimination.

That and transphobia. It isn't a regular thing though.

Not directly, but I have unfortunately been present when someone started going on a rant about the openly gay NFL player (I defy stereotypes... I don't like sports, so don't know names) kissing his partner on TV. This was actually the last straw that brought me back out of the closet, or rather, my lack of defending him and calling her out on her hate. I don't mind if someone disagrees with "gay is okay", but when you call another human being a disgusting waste of space, then I think the other person is the waste of space. I used to be FB friends with her, until she made a few posts that made me realize that her comments were not just a one off, and were an engrained part of her thinking.

I've experienced it before... From my own parents, no less. It really pisses me off. Especially since they've explicitly told me that they wouldn't hold someone's sexuality against them, and then when their child comes out to them, they get disgusted and nearly kicked me out of the house. Thus why I'm stuck pretending to be someone I'm not until I can support myself. Ugh. Stopping here before I go on a page-long rant.

Short answer: Yes, Yes I have.

Yes (it was biphobia actually, but essentially the same type of thing), on bi-visibility day (bi pride 23 sept). It was from someone quite close to me who I thought I could trust. Honestly, I'd never encountered such bigotry and selfishness from someone before.

Suffice to say the conversation did not end on friendly terms.

    Happy days

Yes, when I was in high school before I even came out, and from my family, to this day.

I've had several people in my life be pretty homophobic to me, but nothing too terrible. Mostly just some mean names and then they ignored me for the most part.

Other than seeing an anti-gay protestor on campus shout his religious bullshit, I haven't really, and nothing personal against me.

I'm not out to a lot of people, and A LOT of those people are just...well, to put it nicely, rude...(That's nowhere near the right word for that)

My parents are some of the worst that I know in terms of this. My mom, consistently tells me that people who identify as bisexual need to "make up their mind". She also has a very transphobic view on life. But she is NOWHERE near as bad as my dad. He's told me that if I ever came out, he wouldn't talk to me. He'd go off and then never speak to me ever again.

So, pretty much 98% of my family is homophobic to the extreme, so yes, I have experienced it, but not directed at me, because they don't know.

I had come out as gay in highschool and three kids from my auto-tech class came up to me and told me to stop staring at them because they weren't "faggots" like I was. I wasn't staring at them though; but then they yelled out to everyone individually in the class and asked if they all thought I was creepy to which they all replied "yes".

    School :/

I dont know if this is outright homophobia but two incidents stand out for me. I have been accused of being a "typical liberal" and that i am "spreading a gay agenda" on facebook and other forms of social media due to me posting inspiring quotes or sharing LGBT news on those sites.

Since I'm not out or come across as stereotypical anyways, I haven't had anything directed at me personally. I didn't even grow up hearing much of anything, surprisingly.

In recent years is when I started seeing people's true colors about it, though, so I've seen plenty indirectly. Just made a thread highlighting some of it actually.

Wow, that is just horrible. :\

The other day I was yelled at by fellow students and got called a "queer" and a "homo" in the school parking lot and the teachers on parking lot duty did nothing.
