Does anyone know, what kind of jobs are out there for someone with an undergraduate degree in history? I'm seeking history and wondering what you all think.
From what I know, there aren't a lot. My older brother just tentatively decided to major in history and be a history teacher. That's a possibility, but it's really difficult to get a job as that because there is such a surplus of social studies teachers (because many people major in history and don't know what they can do with that major so they go into education also).
Yeah that's what I'm going for right now. With the school district where I live, they're in such demand of teachers that even if I had a degree in history they might make me teach science or something. Lol. Teaching is always a fall back. Anyone else have any other ideas?

Some real life careers of people I know who did a history undergraduate degree (this is UK specific so maybe not all options - eg NHS!! - available to you, but just to give you an idea of people I know who HAVE entered a variety of careers): Academia (university professor) Teaching civil service local government NHS training scheme Police Postgraduate law conversion degree - lawyer Masters degree in land management - now manages estates librarian (in a university library) archivist's assistant (aiming for chief archivist) Banking (on a very well paid graduate scheme!) Working for one of the main UK political parties Full-time youth pastor at their church Working with special needs children in a hospice These are all real-life examples from amongst people I know who did undergraduate degrees in history. There are many jobs and careers which don't require a specific degree, just a degree. Obviously, the exact opportunities available to you will be differerent in the US, also depending upon where you live and if you're willing to move. But I hope this helps a little!
