The much anticipated election is coming up and most of the races are in a dead heat. What do think the senate will look like after election night.

Democrats will keep the senate by two or three seats and win back all three (White House, Senate, House) in 2016.

I'm thinking it will either be 50/50 or 51/49 Democrats depending on who Greg Orman caucuses with.

Man, I don't know if I should like this for being optimistic or afraid of just how bad things would have to get for people in gerrymandered, heavily conservative districts to vote for democrats in 2016.

2020 might be the most important election year in our lifetimes.

No that's the House. In the Senate, each state has two Senators, and this is why the Senate is currently Democratic: it can't be gerrymandered.

Right. I was referencing BryanM's post about taking all three in 2016. I think that regardless of what happens in the senate in 2014, that the dems will have a good shot at retaining or flipping it back in 2016. However, barring some major issue that the country resoundingly pins on the house GOP, I don't see how the democrats can take the house.

The results in 2020 state elections seems like it's going to matter a whole heck of a lot.

    It's going to be Republicans.

Ha ha, you're being extremely optimistic with that last one.

That's definitely not happening. The House is going to be dark red after this election, and there is no way Democrats win enough seats to take it back in 2016. There's also a very good chance Republicans win the Senate. In fact, there's a 65% chance they do.

Going to have to agree to disagree on that one.

    Sure.

But common sense and math tilt slightly toward my argument...

Yeah, because this is clearly coming from an objective source.

Whoever wins, the citizens will still, as a whole, lose.

I don't see any significant differences, at least around here. Considering Mitch McConnell is blowing up Kentucky, with ads right now, there is very little to sell him. All he's doing is, instead of saying how good he is, he's saying how bad the other candidates are. That said, I don't like McConnell. But Grimes isn't exactly a polished savior, either. The only thing is, I know how McConnell is in his position, but I don't know how Grimes will be.

We need more third parties. It's getting harder to tell the difference, between left and right, more and more, as time goes on. They just focus on different areas, but they all seem to operate the same way.

    Kaiser speaks truth here. :frowning2:

Unfortunately, the country is basically authoritarian either way, and the differences between the left and right are no long substantial enough to matter. Poverty will continue to kill people in the United States, as will racism and sexism.

Haha, love some of these posts. Did you guys know the sky is falling? Anywho, in the end, it doesn't matter. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Either way, we all lose. So says the human condition.

I believe despite what political pundits may say most of the races are too close to call and the fate of the senate is up in the air. A republican senate may happen but it will be a reckless one and full of gridlock even talks of impeachment. Most of the republicans running only have the promise of being like ted cruz the word no is their favorite.

  19. Honestly, I wish we'd have a proportional representation system to include the libertarians and the Greens.

The Republican Party always makes a comeback when a Democrat president gets elected in the presidential elections and the same vice versa. That pretty much gives the rest of the world on how unstable our government will be with a parliamentary government.

I'm sure the Republicans will still maintain a strong control over the house. The senate will be more split.

It seems like the center and far right is growing in power in Europe and the U.S. Don't know why though...

Republicans may win the senate for two years but the far right agenda will only continue to die out with age and older generations. History tells us the anti gay movement is on the wrong side of history and any legislation obama does not like we all know obama will veto it until 2017. The thing about Obama he is fearless and that can bad thing. He is great on gay rights but this EPA bs and pushing obama care is what doomed his term and cost him the house and now the senate maybe. Obama has continually shown he does not hold accountability especially with his cabinet like the va scandal. His anything goes attitude made him as bad as bush and I am a moderate democrat.
